Winning Him Without Words: Placing Christ on the Throne

And Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

MATTHEW 28:20

Placing Christ On The Throne by Sarah Boyer

To surrender you power and control is a hard thing to do. Some may say impossible. But by relinquishing all the power to Jesus and letting him fill your heart, mind and soul, you will experience the greatest feeling of peace. I know; I’ve done it.

I am a control freak and a worrier. If I don’t have a perfectly laid out plan for everything in my life, I feel out of control, unorganized and frazzled. I am not at rest until I have that plan! This is something Jesus has been tugging at me to fix. I am a work in progress, but this is how I am evolving:

I used to sit and make MY plan of how I think things should go.

My plan would fail and I’d become anxious, angry and uptight, snipping and yelling at everyone in my path.

Then I’d start all over again with a new plan.

Big Fat Fail! It never occurred to me to ask Jesus what His plan was for me! I always thought that Jesus didn’t care about my little day-to-day affairs. He only cared about the big stuff, where I should go to college, whom I should marry, live etc.

I’ve recently learned that Jesus wants to guide your every move, from the little things such as what you eat all the way to the big stuff such as how to speak with your non-believing spouse. It’s sort of like how you help your children. You help them make the simple choices in hopes that when the big decisions come, they will come to you for guidance. Jesus wants to do the same. He wants to guide you through it all. This brings to mind Proverbs 16:9: The mind of man plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.

So this is my new plan!

I am going to start each day with this prayer from now on!

It is suggested in our study today, that you get out of bed and fall to your knees when you say this prayer. At first when I started doing this, I felt silly. Not because my husband would see me and judge me because he leaves for work 3 hours before I even get up. But because I felt foolish. Isn’t that silly? No one around but me and Jesus and I felt silly. But I made myself do it and have been doing it for the past few days and the foolish feeling is wearing off and the peace and comfort of surrendering to Jesus is taking over. I’ll trade that for foolishness any day! Besides, what better way to start your day then arming yourself with the power of Jesus inside you?

I am now better prepared to handle anything that comes along throughout the day because all I have to do is recall our simple prayer, surrender my authority of the situation and give it to Jesus to handle. And He always does!

Let’s Pray:

Dear Lord, I pray that you can help us all to surrender our authority over to you. Remind us there is no problem big or small for you to handle for us. Please fill our heart, mind and soul with your leadership so that the troubling, painful and fearful circumstances of our lives lose their power. We can do all things through you. In Jesus name, amen.

Your Assignment:

Your assignment today is to write out a prayer that you will begin praying each day, just after you get up. A prayer that gives Jesus control of your day. A prayer that asks Him to direct your day, so you can stay on task for the things that He wants of you. Post this prayer in the comment section below, so we can be praying with you, as well.

  1. Father,
You are in control of my life and I am not. Help me moment by moment throughout the day to trust and believe this, to rely on and KNOW that you have my best in mind and you are working all things for my good. Help me to love, honor and obey You and be sensitive to the guidance of Your Spirit throughout the day. Help me to lay each thought, each temptation, each trial at Your feet and know You will handle them. Help me know ”You’ve got this!” and rest in You and have the peace that passes understanding. I love you Lord. In Jesus Name. Amen.

  3. Dear Heavenly Father,
I give you control over my day today and every day. Please guide me to do Your will and help this "planner" to feel at peace when giving the reins to you. In Jesus' name, Amen.

  4. Amen, Mina! From one planner to another! 🙂 It's not as hard to give up control when you are giving it up to God! He instantly steps in and takes over!

  5. This is the prayer I say every morning…
Precious Father, Thank you for another day blessed by You. Thank you for the opportunity to be a wife, mother, sister, friend, a blessing to another. Lord, I surrender this day to You, inviting You to sit on the throne of my life. Everything I do this day will be for Your glory. Help my focus to be on You even when moments may threaten to devour me, I know that You are in control and I glady relinquish that control to You. Protect, Father, my husband as he works today, protect his thoughts, words, actions and daily activities from those who are not of You. Protect my children as they walk the halls of school today, shielding them from all things that are not from or of You. You are worthy of all my praise, You are my protector, my shield, my creator, my love, my hearts desire. I thank you for the blessings You have for me this day and pray that my eyes and heart will be open to Your will. In Your son's precious name, Jesus. Amen

  6. Father, I give You this day, and thank You for giving ME this day on earth. I submit all that I do today unto You. Lord if there is anything on my schedule today that You want removed, do so. Add to it what You want me to be doing today, as well. I give You all authority over my life and my schedule. I trust You Lord, with all my heart.

    Dearest Father;
I give this day to your guidance and love. I pray that you will show me the path that is favorable to your teachings and that I will feel your strength and understanding in all decisions this day.
With pure love and trust, I open my heart and life to you.
    Amen.

  8. Oh my! These prayers are so wonderful! Way to praise God in the mornings ladies!!
    Thanks, Christi! Love you too!

  9. Confession is good for the soul. So, I confess that I have a hard time saying or repeating a prayer of confession everyday. What helps me most is having a notebook by my Bible when I get up with my coffee every morning, and write out my prayers, whatever they may be. It keeps me disciplined and focused.

    • That is a wonderful idea about the notebook Martha! At night when I pray, I tend to ramble, maybe this is something I can try as well! Thank you for sharing!

  10. This is awesome Sarah! I sometimes forget God really is always there to help me, I desire to reach out to him always. Thank you for sharing this, and yes it really does go right along with the teen blog!!! You are an inspiration:)

  11. Father this day is creted and belongs to you for me to embrace and live for you. Thank you Jesus for this opportunity to be a better mom, wife, and friend. Help me to honor you in it. Bless it and take it over for your glory! Amen!!

  14. Alrighty this is my third attempt to try to finish my post. I thought all of it had posted earlier and it didn't for whatever reason. In prayet this morning I turned my power and control over to God. Throughout the day I heeded His gentle nudings; allowing others to do without my interference; by following His agenda and not mine. It was an awesome day!

  15. I am powerless and my heart is the Lord's I surrender my life, my heart, my husband, marriage and children to him. I know that His plan is perfect. I surrender all. In Jesus name. Amen
