O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing

psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv

Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing
My great Redeemer’s praise
The glories of my God and King
The triumphs of His grace

My gracious Master and my God
Assist me to proclaim
To spread through all the earth abroad
The honors of Thy name

So come on and sing out
Let our anthem grow loud
There is one great love—Jesus

Jesus, the Name that charms our fears
That bids our sorrows cease
‘Tis music in the sinner’s ears
‘Tis life and health and peace

He breaks the power of canceled sin
He sets the prisoner free
His blood can make the foulest clean
His blood availed for me

He speaks and listening to His voice
New life the dead receive
The mournful broken hearts rejoice
The humble poor believe

Glory to God and praise and love
Be ever, ever giv’n
By saints below and saints above
The church in earth and Heav’n

There are so few words
That never grow old
There are so few words
That never grow old
Jesus, Jesus

Hymn written by Charles Wesley/ Chorus by David Crowder

I heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands.
Revelation 5:11

Years ago, John and Charles Wesley tried to start a ministry in America where they were in school at the time. It failed and they went back to England. They realized that they were missing the joy that all the other Jesus followers had around them. And they remembered that they had never asked Jesus to come into their hearts so they did just that. On the 11th anniversary of their new relationship with Jesus, Charles wrote this hymn. It has been sung in thousands of churches worldwide and was remade into a contemporary Christian song by the Crowder band.

For me it takes me back to a time when I was a child, standing in front of the pew, holding my own hymnbook and singing with all my heart.  I just knew if I sang loud enough that God could hear me.  I remember thinking that at least 1,000 people were in that sanctuary singing His praises. Chills went over my arms as I sang for Him and about Him.

I still love singing my great Redeemer’s praise and, yes, it never gets old.  He still sets captives free and breaks the power of sin.  His blood still cleanses the dirtiest sins and hearts rejoice as He is King.  He loves to hear us sing to Him and about Him.  And I am sure He has heard this very song sung in many languages.  So today is His Day—the Sabbath.  You may be singing this very song with a hymnal or maybe it is up on screens for all to see.  You may be worshipping with hands up in the air or maybe in quiet reverence. You see…that part doesn’t really matter to Him.  He just loves to hear His children’s voices in unison, singing to one God as one body.   He hears all and smiles.

Have a great Sunday!  Rejoice and sing His praises all day long!

Dear Lord, we do want to sing Your praises all day long and we are so grateful that we are free to do so.  This hymn is so beautiful and we are reminded of all You have done to set us free.  And for all those today that are still in bondage, we pray for freedom and forgiveness. You are worthy to be praised!  As long as we have breath, we will continue to praise You.  We love You.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

I’m smiling, Kim, because I sang as loudly as I could too! (I think I tried to make up for those of the “1000” that weren’t in our church service!) 😉
I loved and still love to sing praises to our King!
    Amen to your prayer.
