Just A Reminder

SeekingHimLogo

Answer me when I call to you,
O God, Who declares me innocent.
Free me from my troubles.
Have mercy on me and hear my prayer.
Psalm 4:1

I almost get the feeling that the psalmist is trying to rush God in Psalm 4:1.  In my mind, I picture God just shaking His head thinking, “Rest, my child. I see your troubles and I have handled them.”  Then again, the psalmist could just be making a sincere plea to God for Him to answer the prayer.  Regardless of how I decide to perceive this verse, I feel the Lord’s verbal response would be the same—Rest!

Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:28-30

This verse says that if you come to the Lord, He will give you rest. So, take your request to Him and then rest. {Do not forget about the resting part!}

And don’t forget this:

I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace.
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
John 16:33

Lord, help me take my requests to You and then to rest.  Thank You for the ability to rest in the midst of troubles, knowing that I am adequately taken care of.  Amen.

Ahmee, thank you for this reminder. We do tend to want instant answers, but God has better answers planned.
Baking a good loaf of bread came to my mind as a simple example about resting. There are steps to take, and a period of resting before the dough can go into the oven, and then there is another period of waiting as it bakes. It’s not that nothing is happening, but actually that very important things are happening and they take time. The result is a delicious loaf of bread.
When we wait on and rest in the Lord, very important things are happening ‘behind the scenes’ that we can’t see. God is working His Will to bring about the right answer.
Yes, I, too, want to rest in the Lord. I’m adding my humble ‘amen’ to your prayer.

clella, this is SUCH the excellent lesson in waiting—baking bread! thank you…i won’t forget this one soon <3

    • I like this. My Geology teacher tries to help us relate to geology by relating it to food. It often helps. Lol Makes me hungry, too.

thank you, ahmee, for reminding us to wait and rest. our God is faithful! <3

    • I see so many Christians, myself including struggling with biblical waiting. (Not to be confused with procrastination, which oddly enough, I can do very well.) It doesn’t help that we live in a society of ” have all you want now… And we won’t show you how you’ll pay later.” We are taught to make things happens! As if it is all dependant on us. How messed up society is right now. It’s just sad. Lord, help us all.
