Crazy Love – Week 1/ Chapter 1: “Stop Praying” Weekly Review

Can you believe the first week of the incredible study is coming to a close? I am in shock! What an awesome week! Not only have the blogs been amazing, but I have enjoyed reading all of your comments and insight so much! God is so good! Please join me as I take a brief look back on week one…

Monday you and I were urged to stop praying and start exploring how we are coming to God in our quiet time. Mr. Chan asked us to take some time to dig deep and really take a look at our posture as we come into the presence of Our Lord and Savior.

Martha took a deeper look at God’s vast creation with all of us on Tuesday and she also had us think back about our relationship with our earthly father. We were asked to meditate on God’s greatness and wonder.

Donna took us on quite a journey on Wednesday as we explored the many attributes of God. We were asked to take a look at what holds us back from acknowledging God for who He is.

On Thursday, Jennifer worked through with us how so many aspects of God are bigger than anything we can even comprehend. We read about Isaiah and John and we were urged to again to be quiet and still before our Creator as we focus on His greatness in awe.

Francis Chan has a video for you as we complete chapter 1. I would love for you to watch it now….

In this video, Mr. Chan talks about asking God to create something new for you… not to repeat great quiet times you have had with Him in the past but a NEW awesome time with Him and in His presence! A new fire… a new passion! Let’s take a hard, real look at our prayer life where it maybe has become routine and breathe new life into it TODAY!

Let’s Pray….

Lord, thank You for all of the wonderful insight given to us this week about our prayer time with You. Thank You for so faithfully meeting us right where we are, and Father we thank You for breathing new life into our souls today! Help us to be contagious, spreading your light to all the lives we interact with today and may our passion for You be evident to every life we touch. We love You in a crazy way, Father, and we ask You to keep stoking this fire that is growing within. We crave to be forever changed by You and Your Word. In Your Son’s matchless name we pray, Amen <3

Your Assignment:

Remember yesterday when Jennifer asked you to really think about what the first words out of your mouth would be when you are in the presence of God…. if you literally saw Him right in front of you?  You KNOW it is TIME to fall CRAZY in love with God, ladies……. How will you NOW incorporate THIS new posture and language into your prayer time with God? Leave me some comments below all about it!

Blessings,

Megan 🙂

  1. i am adding these words of adoration and acclamation to my journal along with Scriptures to remind my self of just HOW GREAT is my AWESOME God. i know that there are, and will be, times when my heart is not full to overflowing with crazy love. so i want to be prepared to easily get back to that place where there is renewed passion…and fire…and life! thanks, megan, for your encouragement! <3

  2. Thanks to Chan's description of God and his throne, I am going to try and picture me talking right to Him. That will make the prayers seem more personable.

Didn't you just love that, Pam? Some mornings, I even pour God His own cup of coffee and set it across from me… helps me to really know He is right there <3

  3. Cindy Dehner says

I need to include more adoration in prayer time. That area so needs to be worked on. I have treated it almost like a "given" and just rushed by it to get to other things. The video this morning also made me realize that I don't picture God when I am praying. By incorporating more adoration and picturing God, I hope to find that crazy love! 🙂

Cindy, it helps me to listen to some worship music during part of my prayer time sometimes….. like any relationship, we need to change up the time we have with God or it can run the risk of getting boring or stale. He calls us to be in the Word, but there are so many other things you can do in your time with Him to spice it up and stir your heart and soul! <3

  4. I just joined the bible study yesterday so I read chapter one in a single session instead of throughout the week with the rest of the group. However, I can definitely tell a difference in me. There are times when I do marvel at the awesomeness of God, but not nearly as much as I should. And I certainly don't ever pray like that. But today, after finishing chapter one, my prayer was completely different. There were no requests. I just marveled at His awesomeness.

I already love this book and this group and I pray that I experience God more deeply each day.

I have goose bumps all over after reading this <3 Praying for God to continue to sing into your spirit 🙂

  5. Michelle Stevens says

I really need to discipline myself each day and just have one on one time with God daily. Here lately it has been hit and miss. I do see a difference in my attitude when I do make time and sit down one on one with God himself.

Chapter One was amazing and has changed my perspective on the way I am living my life.

Thank you Megan, Donna, Martha, and Jennifer for the Amazing Blogs this week they were all very encouraging.

    • Megan Smidt says

Michelle, praise God!!!! It helps when you are starting to make an intentional effort to have quiet time with God every day to stick to a same time for awhile to help make it become a habit. Also, if there is someone you trust to help hold you accountable, that helps too <3 I am praising God right along with you!!!

  6. Megan, as I read your question asking how we were going to incorporate this new posture and language into our own prayer time with God, I had to stop and think. I believe we go through different seasons of our relationship with the Lord, and as you said in another comment above, we need to change it up a bit from time to time to keep it from getting bored. That is what has been on my mind this week. I need a change; what I don't know presently, but I am seeking the Lord to show me what that change is. Good question.

    • Megan Smidt says

Martha, I am standing in prayer right along with you for God to show you <3 I know He will 🙂 He wants this time with Him to leave you so full of hope, love and joy that it ooozes out of you throughout your day <3 Remember when you were first dating Mr Bush???? That excitement to have time with him and hanging on his every word? THAT is what God deserves from us! That PASSION and intensity in wanting to be with Him <3

  7. I loved the video today. I have a tendency to think of God as Creator in the past. But He is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow so He's still The Creator. I want to ask Him and expect new things from Him and in our relationship each day. The other thing about talking to God each day: I can get in a rut and basically say the same things in my morning prayer time. How boring for Him to hear the same thing day after day! I need to be more creative! 🙂

  8. Megan Smidt says

amen, Clella!!!! What a great reminder! He is NOW and always will be <3

  9. I want to add even MORE praise and worship time to my quiet time! He sooooo deserves my praises!

  10. Dawn Benson says

I am so excited to try this today. I've been feeling rather lazy all day like I'm catching something and no energy so I haven't even spent time with God today. I'm headed there now though to try this awesome concept. God deserves more of me even when I'm not feeling well.

  11. My view of God has changed significantly this week. I so way under appreciated His HOLINESS. I think I had a more casual, kind of He's my friend, kind of view of God. Now I look at him in AWE and have a respect, love and admiration for Him that I have never had in the past. It's hard to put into words just how I feel about my Father. It is beyond words. Now when I start praying, I don't usually ask for anything, I just praise Him, because He is WORTHY!!! This has been such an incredibly eye opening experience…and this is just the 1st chapter!!! WOW

  12. Patricia Yoken says

The video was the perfect day to start my morning devotional. It really helped me to picture myself before God and changed my mindset as I started my day and my prayers to him. I also took time this morning to look up some daily devotionals to read with Max and had a little prayer time with him too. God is good!
