{"id":9726,"date":"2013-02-26T00:01:46","date_gmt":"2013-02-26T05:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=9726"},"modified":"2013-02-25T22:41:59","modified_gmt":"2013-02-26T03:41:59","slug":"crazy-love-chapter-8-profile-of-the-obsessed-pgs-134-138","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/02\/26\/crazy-love-chapter-8-profile-of-the-obsessed-pgs-134-138\/","title":{"rendered":"Crazy Love: Chapter 8 &#8211;  \u201cProfile Of The Obsessed\u201d (pp 134-138)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In this chapter of <i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Crazy Love<\/span><\/i>, Chan gives us a profile of being obsessed with Jesus. \u00a0Keep in mind that obsessed means &#8216;to have the mind excessively preoccupied with a single emotion or topic.&#8217;\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On pages 134-138, Chan lists\u00a0three more ways in which we should examine ourselves to see if we are obsessed with Jesus to the point that we are faithfully living out His word.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Friends of All \u2013 <\/b>People who are obsessed with Jesus live lives that connect them with the poor in some way or another.\u00a0 Obsessed people believe that Jesus talked about money and the poor so often because it was really important to Him.\u00a0 (1 John 2:4-6; Matthew 16:24-26)\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Crazy Ones \u2013 <\/b>Obsessed people are more concerned with obeying God than doing what is expected or fulfilling the status quo.\u00a0 A person who is obsessed with Jesus will do things that don\u2019t always make sense in terms of success or wealth on this earth.\u00a0 (Luke 14:25-35; Matthew 7:13-23, 8:18-22; Revelations 3:1-6)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The Humble \u2013 <\/b>A person who is obsessed with Jesus knows that the sin of pride is always a battle.\u00a0 Obsessed people know that you can never be \u201chumble enough,\u201d and they seek to make themselves less known and Christ more known.\u00a0 (Matthew 5:16)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">May I share my heart with you as each of us begins to examine ourselves in view of these three ways. \u00a0It is my belief that we go through seasons of our lives where the Holy Spirit is nudging us to be more obsessed with Him, and even points to the door He wants us to enter to make that happen.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">For me personally, there was a particular season of my life when, I indeed, looked pretty <b>Crazy<\/b> to those around me for following Jesus down the path that I felt He was leading me. \u00a0Some even called me by that name!\u00a0\u00a0 In fact, there were even times when I felt a little crazy myself because I was traveling down a road with Jesus that was completely out of my comfort zone of faith.\u00a0 We were on a road together that was, shall I say, \u201cnot my normal way\u201d of life.\u00a0 Believe me, it would have been much easier for me to turn around and go back than to face the opposition that I encountered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">But, I learned some very valuable lessons during that season of my life: <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10) <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">His grace was sufficient enough to carry me through that season of my life, despite the opposition. (2 Corinthians 12:9)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Probably, the most important lesson I learned during that time period was:\u00a0 I had to \u201clet go and trust Him\u201d for the outcome of where He was leading me.\u00a0 After all, isn\u2019t that what faith is?<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">As for being <b>Humble<\/b>, there was one season of my life when I had to face being humbled.\u00a0 Come to think of it, there were two seasons of my life&#8212;no, make that three.\u00a0 Oh, my gosh, numerous\u00a0 times are flooding my memory now as I write this blog when I had to face the big <b>H<\/b>.\u00a0 I am beginning to see that it is\u00a0 just like Chan says:\u00a0 \u201cthe sin of pride is always a battle.\u201d\u00a0 So I might as well look for it to come around and around again until I reach heaven\u2019s door.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I said all of this to show you where I\u2019ve been and where I am at in this present season of my life ;and that is &#8220;<b>Friends of All<\/b>,&#8221; as it pertains to giving to the poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">\u201cD<\/span><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">o you have a problem with giving to the poor?\u201d\u00a0 you might be wondering.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b>My Answer:\u00a0 <\/b>I don\u2019t have a problem with giving to the poor at all<strong>&#8212;<\/strong>it is<b> <\/b>because of the season of my life that I am in at the present time that I am a little hung up.\u00a0 You see, I am retired, and though my husband and I have a comfortable income coming in, it is certainly not like it once was when we had big salaries, plus bonus checks coming in that took care of our family\u2019s needs.\u00a0 There was also enough money left over for fun and recreation, long vacation trips, and even care-free spending at the mall.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">As a result of this decrease in salary, I feel a strong need to be a good steward of MY MONEY.\u00a0 Wait!\u00a0 I don\u2019t believe I just said that.\u00a0 \u201cMY MONEY?\u201d\u00a0 \u201cLord, forgive me; it\u2019s YOUR MONEY.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Oh yes, I believe God wants me to be a good steward in regards to money. But, quite honestly, out of my desire to feel \u201csecure,\u201d I find myself \u201choarding <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">my money<\/span>,\u201d \u00a0(excuse me, God\u2019s money) after I give of my tithes to the church.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Right now I feel the nudge to become <b>Friends of All <\/b>and give to those who don\u2019t even have an income coming in like I do, that is \u201c<b>if I want to be obsessed with Jesus.<\/b>\u201d<b>\u00a0 <\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">And that\u2019s my story on these three.\u00a0 What about you? \u00a0What is God speaking to you about?<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/WhatIsGodSpeakingToYouAbout.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-9773\" alt=\"WhatIsGodSpeakingToYouAbout\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/WhatIsGodSpeakingToYouAbout.jpg\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Be blessed,<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Martha<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">**********<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b>Let\u2019s Pray:\u00a0 <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Father God, first of all, we open our hearts to the convicting power of the Holy Spirit to show us where we are not being obsessed with You.
