{"id":8978,"date":"2013-02-06T00:01:26","date_gmt":"2013-02-06T05:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=8978"},"modified":"2013-02-05T16:48:04","modified_gmt":"2013-02-05T21:48:04","slug":"at-home-with-gch-happy-hearts-day-garland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/02\/06\/at-home-with-gch-happy-hearts-day-garland\/","title":{"rendered":"At Home with GCH: Happy Hearts Day Garland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cropped1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-8979\" style=\"width: 590px; height: 138px;\" alt=\"cropped1\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/cropped1-1024x173.jpg\" width=\"635\" height=\"138\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Raise your hand, please, if you like to decorate for (as we call it around here) <strong>Happy Hearts Day<\/strong>!\u00a0 Uh-huh&#8230;I thought so!\u00a0 Today I have a cute decoration for you to craft!\u00a0 I have totally fallen in love with <em>buntings<\/em> (aka garland or banners)!\u00a0 They can be made with almost any type of fabric or felt or scrapbook paper or wallpaper or ____!\u00a0 The list goes on &amp; on!\u00a0 They can be made teeny-tiny and used as a cake topper; or really long and used for party decorations; or, my favorite, in a medium size and used to hang almost anywhere in your home.\u00a0 The next time you have 2-3 hours to fritter away, &lt;I know, I know&#8230;who does?&gt; run away to <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\"><strong>Pinterest<\/strong><\/span> and you can find oodles and oodles of options, examples, and ideas!<\/p>\n<p>Today, the <em>bunting<\/em> I\u2019ve made is inexpensive, fairly quick, easily adaptable, and you can totally personalize it!\u00a0\u00a0 I needed 16 hearts to write out my chosen wording; if you don\u2019t need as many to &#8220;say&#8221; your phrase, adjust the quantity of paper. You choose your color scheme&#8230;then your coordinating papers&#8230;then ribbon to match and maybe some different colored markers. Check it out!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Supplies and Tools<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>(4) sheets 12&#8243;x12&#8243; solid color scrapbook cardstock<a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_0148.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-8983\" alt=\"IMG_0148\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_0148-300x200.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_0148-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/IMG_0148-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n(4) sheets 12&#8243;x12&#8243; patterned scrapbook paper (coordinating colors)<\/p>\n<p>(1) piece of 8-1\/2&#215;11 copy\/printer paper<br \/>\n4 yards 1\/4&#8243; ribbon<br \/>\nprinter labels (I used 2&#8243;round; you could use 2&#215;4&#8243;)<br \/>\ncolored permanent markers (brands like Sharpie or Bic Mark It)<br \/>\nhole punch<br \/>\nscissors<br \/>\ndecorative edge scissors (<a title=\"like this\" href=\"http:\/\/shop.hobbylobby.com\/products\/assorted-decorative-edge-scissors-290544\/\" target=\"_blank\">like this<\/a>)<br \/>\nadhesive tape runner (<a title=\"adhesive tape runner\" href=\"http:\/\/www.michaels.com\/Mono-Adhesive-Permanent\/sb3902,default,pd.html?start=21&amp;cgid=products-scrapbooking-adhesives \" target=\"_blank\">like this<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Instructions<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n1.\u00a0 Cut the piece of copy paper down into a 6&#8243;x6&#8243; square.\u00a0 Fold in \u00bd (3&#8243;x6&#8243;) and then draw the outline of one side of a heart using most of the piece of paper.\u00a0 Cut out along your line.\u00a0 Unfold\u00a0 the paper; voila! a heart!\u00a0 This will be your template.<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 Cut all 8 sheets of scrapbook paper into 6&#8243;x6&#8243; squares (cut in half, and then, in half again).<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 Using the paper template and a pencil, trace onto each of the heavier-weight squares&#8230;16 in all.\u00a0 Cut out along traced line.\u00a0 Set aside.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0 Now take the paper template, fold along the original crease mark, and cut off about \u00bd&#8221; all around.\u00a0 This will reduce the overall size of your template.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0 Then, using the slightly smaller template and a pencil, trace onto each of the remaining 16 pieces of lighter-weight scrapbook papers.\u00a0 Use the decorative edge scissors to cut out these hearts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Almost ready to assemble!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0 For the labels&#8230; Choose what you would like to write on your bunting.\u00a0 As you can see, I am featuring the words of a section of 1<sup>st<\/sup> Corinthians 13.\u00a0 You could simply put \u2018<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I LOVE YOU!<\/span>\u2019\u00a0 You can either write on them by hand (with the permanent markers) OR employ the use of your favorite wordprocessing program.\u00a0 (That\u2019s what I did!\u00a0 You can achieve a very finished look with not much effort!\u00a0 And lots of fun!) Use the directions included with the printer labels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Almost done!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0 Now to assemble: fiddle around with your cardstock hearts and paper hearts pairing them up to your satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p>8.\u00a0 Then, using the adhesive tape runner, slide 3 or 4 lines of \u2018tape\u2019 onto the back of the lighter-weight paper hearts and affix to the front of the heavier-weight hearts.\u00a0 Pretty, hmmm?\u00a0 Continue until all are put into pairs.<\/p>\n<p>9.\u00a0 Then attach the labels to the very front of your beautiful hearts.<\/p>\n<p>10.\u00a0 \u00a0Now take the hole punch, and punch a hole or two onto each \u2018shoulder\u2019 or bump of the hearts.<\/p>\n<p>11.\u00a0 Lay out the hearts in the proper order to complete your chosen phrase.\u00a0 Take one end of\u00a0 the ribbon, and using about 6&#8243; tie off a loop.\u00a0 This is how you will hang your finished bunting.\u00a0 Beginning with your FINAL word or letter, hold the non-looped end of the ribbon, and thread the ribbon through the holes punched on each heart, keeping the ribbon along the backside of the heart.\u00a0 (Try it&#8230;as you manipulate the ribbon, you will see how easy this goes.)\u00a0 When you get all of your hearts threaded onto the ribbon, lay your bunting out on a flat surface and space out the hearts so there is just 1&#8243;, or so, of ribbon between each heart.\u00a0 Finally, tie off a loop at the end using about 6&#8243;
