Yes, TREES. Plural. We have our big tree that is beautifully decorated in our front room, and we have two smaller trees&#8230; a Norwegian and Swedish tree in our dining room, and our <span style=\"color:#d22230;\"><strong>kitchen tree<\/strong><\/span>, decorated with miniature kitchen utensils and <strong><span style=\"color:#993300;\">cinnamon applesauce ornaments<\/span><\/strong> &#8211; which I am going to teach you how to make today! They are very simple, last for years, and make the house smell wonderful! And who doesn&#8217;t love a spicy aroma wafting from the kitchen this time of year? It just shouts<strong><span style=\"color:#ff0000;\"> Christmas<\/span><\/strong>! By the way, kids of all ages will have fun joining you in the kitchen to make these, so let them help, and make some <strong><span style=\"color:#800080;\">memories<\/span><\/strong> together!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/2012\/12\/01\/saturdays-with-shandy-christmas-edition-cinnamon-applesauce-ornaments\/ornaments\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5303\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5303 aligncenter\" alt=\"ornaments\" src=\"http:\/\/69.89.31.171\/~girlfrk8\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ornaments.jpg\" height=\"259\" width=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ornaments.jpg 1844w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ornaments-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/ornaments-1024x632.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 420px) 100vw, 420px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\">Here&#8217;s what you may need to pick up at the store if you don&#8217;t have them on hand:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><strong><span style=\"color:#339966;\">Applesauce.<\/span> <span style=\"color:#993300;\">Cinnamon.<\/span> <span style=\"color:#999999;\">Cookie Cutters. <span style=\"color:#993366;\">Material Scraps or Twine.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;\">Easy, right? Let&#8217;s get started!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:left;\"><strong>Directions,\u00a0 <\/strong>adapted from<span style=\"color:#800000;\"> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mccormick.com\/recipes\/other\/cinnamon-ornaments.aspx\"><span style=\"color:#800000;\">McCormick.com<\/span><\/a><\/span><strong>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat oven to 200\u00b0 F.<\/li>\n<li>In a bowl, mix together 3\/4 c. applesauce and 1 cup + 3 T. cinnamon until well incorporated and smooth.<\/li>\n<li>Sprinkle cinnamon on a cutting board, and roll out dough to 1\/3&#8243; thickness.<\/li>\n<li>Cut out with small cookie cutters.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully place cut outs on an unprepared cookie sheet.<\/li>\n<li>Using a straw, poke a hole at the top of each ornament, as shown in the picture at the top.<\/li>\n<li>Bake in oven for 2-1\/2 hours, until hard. I kept mine in for an additional 15 minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Cool on a wire rack.<\/li>\n<li>Cut or tear strips of muslin, homespun, or twine for each ornament. I used coffee-stained muslin. Mmmm, smells delicious!<\/li>\n<li>Place a strip through the hole of each ornament and knot at the top.<\/li>\n<li>Hang on tree!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>These will last for years if stored carefully in an airtight container!<\/li>\n<li>Note: even though these are made with just applesauce and cinnamon, they are not edible. Trust me \ud83d\ude09<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here is a picture of my kitchen tree.
