{"id":4243,"date":"2012-11-20T00:30:38","date_gmt":"2012-11-20T06:30:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=4243"},"modified":"2013-01-24T23:44:47","modified_gmt":"2013-01-25T04:44:47","slug":"week-8-day-2-you-can-insist-that-boys-treat-you-well","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2012\/11\/20\/week-8-day-2-you-can-insist-that-boys-treat-you-well\/","title":{"rendered":"A Daughter&#8217;s Worth: Week 8 \/ Day 2 &#8211; You CAN Insist That Boys Treat You Well"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When you <strong>CAN<\/strong> do something it means you are <em>Able<\/em>, <em>Permitted<\/em>, <em>Possible<\/em>, or <em>Designed<\/em> to do something.\u00a0 That is pretty awesome to think that I was designed to be able to insist that people treat me well.\u00a0 Does that mean that every person in my life<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> WILL<\/span> treat me well?\u00a0 Uh, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NO<\/span>!\u00a0 Do I have to accept that behavior from them?\u00a0 Uh,<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> No<\/span>.\u00a0 So, why would I let a boy treat me any less than God created me to be?\u00a0 Uh, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">WOW<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 Do you know what the past tense of CAN is??? <strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">COULD<\/span><\/strong>. \u00a0\u00a0Could hurts me to say.\u00a0 Could means that I made a bad choice and, if I could go back, I would change what happened.\u00a0 Could usually comes with regret. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n<p>In our home, if we have a hard time deciding if something is right or wrong, we take it back to the Bible and see what it says about the subject.\u00a0 When we have friends or family members who treat us poorly, we look to see if our behaviors have lined up with the scriptures.\u00a0 The verses we go to about relationships is <strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">1 Corinthians 13<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 It\u2019s called the <em><strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LOVE<\/span><\/strong><\/em> chapter.\u00a0 We all want to be loved and want to love other people, so why not seek out what <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LOVE<\/span> is from the source, GOD.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0So the Bible says this is what <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">love<\/span> IS.\u00a0 Anything that doesn\u2019t look like this is NOT <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">love<\/span> and you can WALK the other way or INSIST to be treated with <span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">love<\/span>.\u00a0 Sometimes that is hard to do.\u00a0 We may have to walk away from our friends or that cute guy that we want to like.\u00a0 We may have to stand up for ourselves and tell our \u2018friends\u2019 (and sometimes our family) that we don\u2019t want to be treated in a way that makes us feel uncomfortable.\u00a0 When we deal with our friends and family, we also need to follow these verses and treat them with <strong style=\"font-size: 13px; line-height: 19px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LOVE<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>If a young man wants your attention and wants to love you, he will make you feel smart, funny and pretty. <em>(And not because of what he can get from you)<\/em>\u00a0 He will never ask you to do anything that will make you ashamed or feel dirty. <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">(Love does not insist on its own way, it does not rejoice in wrongdoing)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 He will want you to spend time with your friends and family and would even want to hang out with you.\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">(Love is patient and kind, it does not envy, it is not arrogant or rude)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 Boyfriends should draw you closer to God, not pull you away from Him.\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">(Love rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things)<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 Boyfriends should always make you feel good inside; not sick, worthless, jealous or angry.\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">(Love endures all things)<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>When you are a teenager it is hard to find a boy that can measure up to all these standards.\u00a0 Sometimes you want to lower your standards just to have someone you can call \u201cyours\u201d.\u00a0 Each time you give your heart away, you lose a little piece of yourself.\u00a0 Most teens are not able to love someone else more than they love themselves. That takes maturity and maturity comes with living life and seeking God.\u00a0 \u00a0It is almost impossible to find a teen boy who loves you the way God created you to be loved. It\u2019s OK to wait for that person God has been preparing just for you.<\/p>\n<p>In my family, with so many daughters, we have many different opinions on the topic of dating and boys.\u00a0 Some of my daughters want to wait to have a boyfriend, to hold hands, to kiss someone; to give him her heart until she is ready to be married.\u00a0 Some of my daughters enjoy having a young man to call her own and share her \u201clife\u201d with.\u00a0 A couple have gotten tired of waiting, tried to make it happen on their own and have had broken hearts.\u00a0 I love them all and continue to point them back to<span style=\"color: #800080;\"> 1 Corinthians 13<\/span> to help them decide if they are being treated with love and if they are treating others with love.\u00a0<strong><em> There is no cookie cutter answer about having a boyfriend because girls are not cookies.\u00a0 =D<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In our study, Ava Sturgeon says, <strong>\u201cAs a daughter of worth, you should expect to be treated well.\u00a0 Dating the wrong guy is a tragic waste of you.\u00a0 God\u2019s beautiful potential.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong> How true!\u00a0 Protect your heart.\u00a0 You are going to need all those pieces of yourself.\u00a0 If you find that your heart is already broken into little pieces, take them to God and let Him put them back together.\u00a0 He will.\u00a0 It\u2019s not too late.\u00a0 He wrote the book on <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LOVE<\/span><\/strong>, so trust Him to show you what perfect <strong><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">LOVE<\/span><\/strong> looks like.<\/p>\n<p>If what you are seeing and receiving from people does not match up with what the Bible says you deserve \u2013 turn around and head back toward God.\u00a0 You are on the wrong path.\u00a0 That leads me back to my life verse, <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Proverbs 3:6, \u201cIn all your ways acknowledge Him and HE will direct your paths\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>You <strong>CAN<\/strong> insist that boys\/men\/parents\/siblings\/friends treat you well.\u00a0 You <strong>CAN<\/strong> treat them well in return.\u00a0 It\u2019s not too late to get on the right PATH facing God\u2019s direction.\u00a0 Be blessed my friends.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>Let&#8217;s Pray:<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Father we thank you for creating us with the desire to be loved and to want to love others.\u00a0 Lord we want someone to love us the way YOU love us.\u00a0 Father, give us patience to wait on the person you are preparing for us.\u00a0 Give us people in our lives who support us, care about us and protect our hearts.\u00a0 We know that you are the source of all love and good things and that is what we want for ourselves and for our friends.\u00a0 Help us to always look to you for guidance and keep our feet on the right path.\u00a0 We love you, Lord.\u00a0 Amen<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">Mama<\/span> <span style=\"color: #800080;\">T<\/span> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&lt;3<\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~<\/p>\n<p>For the<i> A Daughter\u2019s Worth<\/i> Bible Study, you will need the book, your Bible, pen or pencil, a highlighter and a quiet place.
