It&#8217;s a dessert that my dad would get whenever we&#8217;d go to a local buffet. I&#8217;d spy it at the dessert station, and I&#8217;d go back to the table and entice him with, &#8220;Dad, they have bread pudding.&#8221;\u00a0 Every single time I make it I think of him. I&#8217;ve tested and tweaked various recipes, until I came close to perfection, and I&#8217;m sharing it with you today.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/2012\/11\/17\/gch-whats-on-your-plate-bread-pudding\/bread-pudding-1\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-4103\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4103\" title=\"bread pudding 1\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/69.89.31.171\/~girlfrk8\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bread-pudding-1.jpg?w=300\" height=\"279\" width=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bread-pudding-1.jpg 2587w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bread-pudding-1-300x279.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/bread-pudding-1-1024x952.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 to 3\u00a0 1\/2 c Italian bread, enough to fill the bottom of a 9&#215;13 baking dish<\/li>\n<li>1 3\/4 c sugar<\/li>\n<li>2 c milk<\/li>\n<li>6 medium eggs<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp pure vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>ground nutmeg<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For topping:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5 Tblsp butter, softened<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 c light brown sugar, packed<\/li>\n<li>\u00a01 1\/4 c pecan halves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For brandy sauce:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 egg, beaten<\/li>\n<li>2 tsp pure vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>1 stick butter<\/li>\n<li>3\/4 c sugar<\/li>\n<li>1\/3 c brandy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Directions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1. The day before, cube bread (good size cubes) and put in an uncovered bowl. Preheat oven to 340 degrees. (F)<\/p>\n<p>3. Grease a 9&#215;13 baking dish.<\/p>\n<p>4. Place bread in the baking dish.<\/p>\n<p>5. In a bowl, beat 6 eggs. Mix in 1 3\/4 c sugar, 2 tsp vanilla, and milk. Pour over bread, making sure all the bread is covered. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Let sit for 15-20 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>6. Place the topping ingredients in another bowl and use a pastry cutter or wooden spoon to mix. Sprinkle over the top of the bread.<\/p>\n<p>7. Bake uncovered for 50 minutes, or until the pudding is set.<\/p>\n<p>8. Remove from oven and allow to cool while you make the brandy sauce.<\/p>\n<p>9. In a medium saucepan on low-medium heat, combine all sauce ingredients except the brandy. Once the butter and sugar are completely melted, turn the heat to low, stir in the brandy and mix continuously for 2 minutes. Pour over pudding.<\/p>\n<p>10. Serve warm.
