 Children Must Obey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have to admit something.\u00a0 I was born with a<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"> rebellious spirit<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 Really, I was\u2026and\u2026it didn\u2019t go away just because I got older.\u00a0 I am the firstborn.\u00a0 I have two younger brothers\u2026and I wanted a sister or nothing at all.\u00a0 They could have those boys back!!!\u00a0 I never let my parents, or my brothers forget that I wanted a sister.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter.\u00a0 It didn\u2019t matter how much I whined or complained or made everyone miserable, I still had brothers.\u00a0 (sigh)\u00a0 Mom said, \u201cGo help your brother\u201d and you KNOW what was going on in my mind.\u00a0 (No need to put those words here)\u00a0 You know what they were.\u00a0 If they broke something, I got in trouble.\u00a0 If they cried, I got yelled at.\u00a0 Can you believe I still remember that stuff?\u00a0 It really doesn\u2019t matter anymore.\u00a0 We are all grown-ups with families of our own.\u00a0 But still, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Mom said help and I helped<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>I had times that I didn\u2019t want to do the chore list that my mom and dad left for me to do, especially in the summer.\u00a0 Why didn\u2019t I get to be lazy in the summer?\u00a0 I just got out of school and now I have a massive chore list.\u00a0 I got old enough to get my permit and then driver\u2019s license.\u00a0 I couldn\u2019t wait to get a car and a job and, and <span style=\"color: #008000;\">FREEDOM<\/span>.\u00a0 Somehow things never worked out the way I planned.\u00a0 I was 18 before I got that job and I shared my mom\u2019s car.\u00a0 I was 21 before I had a car of my own with all the bills that go with it.\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0 Why wasn\u2019t my life working out like I thought it should?\u00a0 Why were my parents putting all these restrictions on my <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>FREEDOM<\/em><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Hebrews 12:11<\/span> says, \u201cFor the moment all <em>discipline<\/em> seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I looked up the definition of DISCIPLINE and it says this:\u00a0 <b>discipline<\/b> n. <em>Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>So, my parents wanted me to grow up with a specific character that reflected good moral and mental behaviors????\u00a0 Who\u2019d a thunk it??? \u00a0When I began thinking about raising my own daughters, I wanted to go even one step further and make sure they knew from Day 1 what and why I wanted them to do the things I asked them to do.\u00a0 I wanted to be the kind of mom they could look up to.\u00a0 A mom they could talk to and ask questions of.\u00a0 I wanted to always point them back to God and the Scriptures.<\/p>\n<p>My favorite guide for raising my daughters is found in <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Deuteronomy 6:7-9<\/span>.\u00a0 It says, \u201cRepeat them (laws, traditions, scriptures) again and again to your children.\u00a0 Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.\u00a0 8 Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. 9 Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.\u201d\u00a0 There is no question that my girls (or their friends) can\u2019t ask me.\u00a0 I will answer every question as honestly and biblically as I possibly can.<\/p>\n<p>So I tried to do everything RIGHT with my girls.\u00a0 I tried to answer all their questions; even the hard ones.\u00a0 I took them to church, taught them to serve and then one day my oldest daughter went off to college.\u00a0 We sent her off to discover life for herself, with godly discipline and character behind her.\u00a0 And then\u2026we were disappointed.\u00a0 There is a reason Solomon tells us in <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Proverbs 22:6<\/span> to \u201cDirect your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.\u201d\u00a0 Even though I had taught my daughter the best way I knew how, she had to learn life lessons on her own.\u00a0 I had to love her enough to let her learn the hard way.\u00a0 I asked her if she would like to share some things she learned during that time in her life.\u00a0 Her name is <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Michele<\/span> and she will be 23 in December.\u00a0 Here is what she had to share with you guys:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">I think I was a little different than most teenagers.\u00a0 Starting at 13, I understood my parents reasoning behind the rules, and that probably saved my life.\u00a0 Most teens go through a phase where they feel like their parents don\u2019t know anything about the teenager\u2019s life and what they\u2019re going through, so they must not know what they\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 As a result, they\u2019ll stray a bit and rebel against their parents rules, maybe go to church less often or not at all.\u00a0 My time of rebellion was once I graduated high school and moved away to college.\u00a0 Because I was insistent on doing my own thing and thinking I knew best, God was not at the top of my priority list.\u00a0 I hardly ever thought about Him or asked his opinion.\u00a0 When my parents asked if I was going to church on the weekends, my excuse was \u201cI don\u2019t have time.\u201d\u00a0 Of course I didn\u2019t have time, because I didn\u2019t make time.\u00a0 You make time for things that are important to you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Ok, so about obeying your parents\u2026you obey because God has commanded you to.\u00a0 In fact, the first commandment in the bible with a promise attached to it is<span style=\"color: #800080;\"> Exodus 20:12<\/span>.\u00a0 \u201cHonor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.\u201d\u00a0 Sounds to me like that\u2019s kind of important.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">If your parents are Christians, you obey them knowing they are striving to teach you what is right and want the best for you.\u00a0 No parent is perfect, just like no teenager is perfect.\u00a0 The way to deal with that is to LOVE.\u00a0 This is my biggest thing lately.\u00a0 Love your parents enough to see their intentions and forgive them when they make the wrong choice in how to deal with something.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">If your parents are not Christians, there is always a chance that the way they are leading is not in line with God\u2019s law.\u00a0 What do you do then?\u00a0 Just blow them off and have a bad attitude, treating them like they\u2019re stupid?\u00a0 NO!\u00a0 According to <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Romans 13:1<\/span>, everyone must submit to authority.\u00a0 In <span style=\"color: #800080;\">Matthew 22:37-40<\/span>, Jesus says your first priority\/responsibility is to love God with everything in you.\u00a0 So, God\u2019s commands are MOST important.\u00a0 And the second is to love others as yourself (or as God loves you).\u00a0 The key to obeying the rules, laws, and commandments is to Love God and Love People.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">If your parents are asking you to do something you believe is wrong, you still must respect and honor them, but you CAN tell them how you feel.\u00a0 If you are following God and respectfully informing your parents that you do not agree and don\u2019t feel comfortable doing what they have asked.\u00a0 If you are in line with the Bible, then you have fulfilled your responsibilities.\u00a0 But you must ALWAYS respect authority.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&lt;3 Michele Bolme&lt;3<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000; text-decoration: underline;\">ALL I CAN SAY IS WOW!!!\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong><\/span>So when Solomon said that if I taught my daughter right, gave her discipline and showed her how to live like Jesus, then one day <b><i><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">when<\/span><\/i><\/b> she walked away to do her own thing, she WOULD return to God because she LOVES HIM.\u00a0 I am one thankful Mom.\u00a0 Now only 7 more daughters to go.
