In the beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ),
\nand the Word was with God,
\nand the Word was God Himself.
\nHe was [continually existing] in the beginning [co-eternally] with God
\nAll things were made and came into existence through Him;
\nand without Him not one thing was made that has come into being.
\nIn Him was life [and the power to bestow life],
\nand the life was the Light of men.
\nThe Light shines on in the darkness,
\nand the darkness did not understand it or overpower it
\nor appropriate it or absorb it\u00a0<\/span>[and is unreceptive to it].
\n<\/span>John 1:1-5 AMP<\/span><\/p>\n

Darkness is defined as the absence of light. \u00a0The only thing that can make darkness disappear is light. \u00a0Think about it…at night a small light can be seen from very far away. \u00a0We see stars that are millions of miles away. \u00a0Makes sense, right? \u00a0As I was studying this Scripture, I had a \u201clightbulb\u201d moment <\u00a0pun intended<\/em> \ud83d\ude09 ><\/p>\n

Before I accepted Jesus, my soul was dark. \u00a0There was no light to dispel the darkness. \u00a0Life and light aren\u2019t just in<\/strong> Jesus. \u00a0Jesus IS <\/strong>Life and Light. \u00a0Look at John 8:12 NASB:<\/p>\n

Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying,
\n“I am the Light of the world;
\nhe who follows Me will not walk in the darkness,
\nbut will have the Light of life.”<\/p>\n

Jesus\u00a0IS<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0the Light of men. \u00a0John 12:46 ESV reiterates this:<\/p>\n

I have come into the world as Light,
\nso that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness.<\/p>\n

We do not have to stay in darkness<\/span>! \u00a0I love John 1:5<\/a>. \u00a0Darkness does not understand, comprehend, or grasp the Light but must acknowledge it. \u00a0Darkness cannot overtake, overcome, overpower, extinguish, or absorb the Light but must reflect it. \u00a0Isn\u2019t that amazing? What is the best way to deal with the darkness of this world? \u00a0Add more light<\/strong>. \u00a0Darkness cannot hide the Light! \u00a02 Corinthians 4:6 NASB promises: \u201cLight shall shine out of darkness.\u201d \u00a0Jesus\u2019 Light shines through us. \u00a0Jesus gives us life and light. \u00a0Out of the darkness of our soul, the Light of Jesus shines. \u00a0John MacArthur puts it like this:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe light in us is His light, the indwelling Christ, the Holy Spirit within us.<\/span>\u201d<\/p>\n

“…And\u00a0the life was The Light of men” (John 1:4). \u00a0Heaven merged with humanity and was born in a manger to bring us the gift of Life and Light. \u00a0What a Gift we have been given!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
