I do! Whether it\u2019s my Dad\u2019s always delicious, traditional mashed turnips and carrots, or a puree of turnips with butter and brown sugar (I know, I know&#8230;), or chunks of turnips in a stew\u2014they are yummy and satisfying. A tiny bit sweet, and a little spicy&#8230;I believe that fits in nicely with our healthy but oh-so-yummy POV. And, I am thinking they will show up on our Thanksgiving table in a few weeks! \u00a0Enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2015-10-26-13.09.36.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-28319\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2015-10-26-13.09.36-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"2015-10-26 13.09.36\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2015-10-26-13.09.36-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2015-10-26-13.09.36-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/2015-10-26-13.09.36-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Sweet&amp;Spicy Turnips and Squash<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ingredients<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>1# turnips, peeled<br \/>\n1 small butternut squash (about 1+1\/2 &#8211; 2#), peeled and seeded<br \/>\n2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon sea salt<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper<br \/>\n1 small red onion, halved and sliced<br \/>\n2 tablespoons molasses (or 100% pure maple syrup)<br \/>\n1 teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/8 teaspoon each nutmeg, ground cloves, star anise Chinese five-spice powder<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon sea salt<\/p>\n<p>directions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>preheat to 450; generously line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper<\/li>\n<li>slice turnips in half and then into 1\/2# slices; slice butternut crosswise into 3\/4&#8243; X 3\/4&#8243; sized pieces<\/li>\n<li>toss together with oil, s&amp;p in a large bowl until well coated<\/li>\n<li>pour onto lined baking sheet and spread out into an even layer (set the bowl aside; don\u2019t wash it just yet!)<\/li>\n<li>roast the veggie for 10 minutes. carefully pour back into the bowl (I simply picked up the parchment paper by the edges&#8230;don\u2019t worry&#8230;it will not burn you.)<\/li>\n<li>add in the onions and spices; stir gently to combine. then pour the molasses all around and give another stir to coat thoroughly<\/li>\n<li>pour the coated veggies back onto the lined baking sheet<\/li>\n<li>return to oven for 20 or so more minutes (give a quick stir about halfway through) \u2018til tender<\/li>\n<li>sprinkle with additional sea salt before serving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u2665 \u00a0 \u2665\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2665\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u2665 \u00a0 \u2665<\/span><\/p>\n<p>God loves you!\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u00a0\u2665\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>(Don\u2019t ever forget that!)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">\u2665\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0coleen<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Turnips&#8230;do you love \u2018em?
