If only You would slay the wicked, O God! <\/span>
\nAway from me, you bloodthirsty men! <\/span>
\nThey speak of You with evil intent;
\nYour adversaries misuse Your name.<\/span>
\nDo I not hate those who hate You, O Lord,
\nand abhor those who rise up against You? <\/span>
\nI have nothing but hatred for them; I count them my enemies. <\/span>
\nPsalms 139:19-22<\/span><\/p>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0~ \u00a0 \u2665 \u00a0 ~\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u271e\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0~ \u00a0\u2665 \u00a0 ~ \u00a0 *<\/span><\/p>\n

This week, here on the Seeking Him<\/em><\/strong> devotional blog, we have continued along in our series on this wonderful chapter, Psalm 139. \u00a0The passage that our devotional writers have written on is NOT an easy one. \u00a0But each of them has reminded us of the standard that God has for us and the example that Jesus set. \u00a0Here’s a little of what they shared\u2026.<\/p>\n

In Loving Our Enemies<\/em>, Ahmee<\/span><\/strong> reiterated the standard we already know….<\/p>\n

Did Jesus agree with sinning? \u00a0No. \u00a0But yet he was still able to mingle among sinners. \u00a0Jesus did not stand apart from them and shake his finger at them. Not our Jesus.<\/em>\u00a0 That is just not how He operated…We are so quick to point fingers at other people, especially non-believers. \u00a0We cannot hold non-believers to the standards we would believers—they don\u2019t believe what we do. \u00a0Our first goal should be to win them over and show them God\u2019s love and mercy. \u00a0I say this in regard to Psalm 139:22, where it says, \u201cI have nothing but hatred for them, I count them my enemies.\u201d \u00a0The psalmist does say this, but we have been called to love those in the world.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
\nMatthew 5:44<\/p>\n

As followers of Jesus, He obey His commands\u2026and if He said that we are to love our enemies\u2026then we are to love our enemies. \u00a0He is not<\/strong><\/em> saying \u00a0\u201cLove all the sin that your enemies do.\u201d \u00a0Nope. \u00a0He is saying\u2014love the person, hate the sin.<\/p>\n

\u2766<\/span><\/h2>\n

In Attitude Towards Righteousness and Wickedness<\/em>, Ann<\/span><\/strong> reminded us of God’s attitude….<\/p>\n

Having meditated on God\u2019s great love for him, the psalmist reciprocates with great love and loyalty to his Lord. \u00a0His anger is stirred against those who oppose and blaspheme God\u2019s wonderful name. \u00a0In deep sympathy with God and His cause, he so identifies himself with the Lord that he hates what God hates and loves what God loves.<\/p>\n

You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness
\ntherefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
\nby anointing you with the oil of joy.
\nHebrews 1:9<\/p>\n

This shows that it is not enough for God\u2019s children to love righteousness, they must also hate evil. \u00a0We see this clearly in Christ\u2019s devotion to righteousness (Isaiah 11:5<\/a>) and His hatred of wickedness in His life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\u2766<\/span><\/h2>\n

In Respect<\/em>, Tina\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>reminded us of the importance of respect….<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Through respecting and honoring them, I am showing the same respect for God. \u00a0God tells us we will be blessed with long life and abundance when we respect and honor our parents. \u00a0But we also need to teach this to our children and to those around us. \u00a0When everyone has a respect for each other, then this world will become a better place. \u00a0It only needs to start with us.<\/p>\n

Honor your father and your mother,
\nso that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
