Recorded in the Gospel of John, our Lord made seven statements referring to Himself as I AM<\/em><\/span>\u2026<\/p>\n

I AM<\/strong> The Light of the World
\nI AM<\/strong> The Bread of Life<\/em>
\nI AM<\/strong> The Door<\/em> <\/em><\/span>
\nI AM<\/strong> The Good Shepherd
\nI AM<\/strong> The True Vine<\/em> <\/em><\/span>
\nI AM<\/strong> The Way, The Truth, and The Life<\/em><\/span>
\nI AM<\/strong> The Resurrection and The Life<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Each week during this season of Lent, here on the Seeking Him<\/em> blog, we will be focusing our devotionals on a different aspect of Jesus\u2019 revelation of Himself as I AM<\/span>.\u00a0 The aim of Lent should be to prepare our hearts for the remembrance of Jesus\u2019 sacrifice\u2014His trial and torture, the Crucifixion and His death\u2026and above all, the celebration of His Resurrection from the dead. \u00a0We pray that this will be a great encouragement to each of you who read them. \u00a0And that all of us will consider the significance of Jesus\u2019 words and, through them, be helped as we remember and are thankful for all Jesus went through during the last few weeks of His life on this earth.<\/p>\n

Jesus said to them, \u201cVery truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the True Bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.\u201d \u201cSir,\u201d they said, \u201calways give us this bread.\u201d Then Jesus declared, \u201cI AM the Bread of Life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Have you seen how they slice bread in a grocery store deli or a bakery? \u00a0I have. \u00a0I used to be able to slice bread onone of those bread slicers. \u00a0I still vaguely remember how to use that slicer. \u00a0The bread was usually very cool but soft on the inside. \u00a0The crust very crusty and crumbly on the outside. \u00a0What a mess. \u00a0Cleaning it could be particularly hard. Yet it had to be cleaned up for the next slicing. \u00a0It was the rule.<\/p>\n

People buy bread to eat it. \u00a0They buy bread to combat hunger. \u00a0That is part of human life. \u00a0We must eat to survive because eating gives us energy. \u00a0Yet, what about eternal energy? \u00a0How will we survive eternity?<\/p>\n

Jesus Christ made the ultimate sacrifice by dying on the Cross for us. \u00a0He is the Bread of eternal life. \u00a0When we accept Christ into our hearts, we receive the Bread of eternal life. \u00a0We accept Christ as our Savior, and He is all we need to survive in this world. \u00a0Through Him we are granted eternal life.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying,
\n\u201cThis is My body given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.\u201d
\nIn the same way, after the supper He took the cup, saying,
\n\u201cThis cup is the New Covenant in My blood, which is poured out for you.\u201d
\nLuke 22:19-20<\/p>\n

When Jesus attended the last supper, He gave the twelve disciples a piece of Himself through communion with Him. \u00a0He would give the rest of Himself to everybody through His death on the Cross. \u00a0He would become the Bread needed to have eternal life.<\/p>\n
