So. True! \u00a0\u00a0This struck my heart and caused me to remember the admonition and encouragement from the Book of James on this very topic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But prove yourselves <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>doers<\/strong> <\/span>of the Word,<br \/>\nand not merely hearers who delude themselves.<br \/>\nFor if anyone is a hearer of the Word and not a <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>doer<\/strong><\/span>,<br \/>\nhe is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;<br \/>\nfor once he has looked at himself and gone away,<br \/>\nhe has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.<br \/>\nBut one who looks intently at the perfect law,<br \/>\nthe Law of liberty, and abides by it,<br \/>\nnot having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>doer<\/strong><\/span>,<br \/>\nthis man will be blessed in what he does.<br \/>\nJames 1:22-25 NASB<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I just \u2665 the Book of James, don\u2019t you?!? \u00a0Here in chapter one, we are being<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>built up to handle the temptations that invariably come our way (verses 2-4)<\/li>\n<li>encouraged to ASK God for His wisdom knowing that He gives it generously (verse 5)<\/li>\n<li>reminded that rewards await us eternally when we persevere in these trials (verse 12)<\/li>\n<li>thankful because our Father only gives what is good and perfect to us (verse 17)<\/li>\n<li>warned to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger (verse 19)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And then James writes, \u201c<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>But prove yourselves doers of the word&#8230;<\/em><\/span>\u201d (verse 22). \u00a0Yes, oh, yes; yes, I will! \u00a0Does your heart respond like that? (I do think that it does!) \u00a0Throughout the Scriptures, \u2018&#8230;men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit\u2019 (2 Peter 1:21), and that is how we received the Scriptures. \u00a0\u00a0As we read and consider and contemplate the words in God\u2019s Word we are moved and compelled and motivated and spurred on (and convicted and reproved also!). \u00a0They motivate us to be <strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">DO-ers<\/span> <\/strong>and not hearers<em> only<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>But if we want to be <strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">DO-ers<\/span><\/strong> of the Word then we must be HEAR-ers <em>also<\/em>. Now I don\u2019t think this simply and exclusively means that we are to ONLY be audibly listening to the Scriptures. I think that it means really hearing it&#8230;in your mind and in your heart! And trusting and having faith in what is \u2018heard.\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.<br \/>\nRomans 10:17<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A good friend once said, \u201cDon\u2019t just listen to it&#8230;don\u2019t just study it; you have to DO what it says. Otherwise, you fool yourselves.
