\u00a0It&#8217;s my attempt at copycatting a recipe from a hot dog chain in Southern California called Der Wienerschnitzel. \u00a0It comes pretty close to the original <strong>Polish Sandwich<\/strong>, with melted Swiss cheese, snappy sauerkraut, and tart pickles. \u00a0I haven&#8217;t been to Wienerschnitzel in years, yet I still found myself craving one of these babies. \u00a0(Sometimes you just gotta scratch that itch.)<\/p>\n<p>But seriously, I am going to eat better next year. \u00a0No&#8212;really! \u00a0Bread will become a special treat, sugar will become verboten, and my veggie uptake will increase! \u00a0So as we finish out this year, I decided to give in to the desire for a <em>Polish Sandwich<\/em>, as a farewell to some not-so-healthy habits. \u00a0These sandwiches easy to make, and so satisfying. \u00a0You can use hot dogs or any kind of Polish-type\u00a0sausage you like. \u00a0Try yellow or spicy brown mustard. \u00a0Find some good rye bread and make this sandwich. \u00a0You&#8217;ll take one bite and say <strong><em>Danke<\/em>!<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Polish Sausage<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>For each sandwich you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a 5-inch piece of Polish sausage, or hot dogs, cut in half lengthwise<\/li>\n<li>pat of butter<\/li>\n<li>2 slices\u00a0rye bread<\/li>\n<li>1 slice Swiss cheese<\/li>\n<li>1\/4 &#8211; 1\/2 cup Sauerkraut, warmed up<\/li>\n<li>1 large dill pickle, cut lengthwise into quarters<\/li>\n<li>yellow or brown mustard<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Directions:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Cook sausage or hot dogs until done and hot all the way through.<\/li>\n<li>Meanwhile, in a large pan, heat the pat of butter. \u00a0Put both slices\u00a0of rye bread down in the butter. \u00a0Top one slice of bread with the Swiss cheese. \u00a0Cook over low until the cheese melts and the bottoms of the bread are lightly toasted.<\/li>\n<li>To assemble: \u00a0Place the plain (non-cheese) slice of bread on the bottom and\u00a0squirt with mustard. \u00a0Top with two halves of the sausage (or three halves of the hot dogs, cut side down. \u00a0In between the sausage, place as many of the quartered pickles as you like. \u00a0Cover the sausage and pickles with hot sauerkraut. \u00a0Top with cheese-y slice of rye bread. \u00a0Cut in half and eat hot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Explore, experiment, enjoy!<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 Dana<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>To view even more of Dana\u2019s unique recipe, you can visit her at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/frugalgirlmet.blogspot.com\/\">Frugal Girlmet<\/a>!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ladies, I&#8217;m not proud of this entry. \u00a0I mean, I AM proud of it, because this sandwich is seriously delicious!
