The biblical Greek translation of humble is \u201ca lowliness of mind.\u201d \u00a0That doesn\u2019t mean putting yourself down or talking bad about yourself. \u00a0As the Pulpit Commentary defines it, being humble means you are \u201csubmissive, meek, contrite, teachable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Humility is an absence of self. It is a heart attitude&#8230;not an act we put on. \u00a0A humble person willingly submits themselves to God. \u00a0Humility is giving up our desires for the good of another&#8212;a willingness to step aside so another can shine. \u00a0Being humble means <em><strong>giving up my right to be right in order to do what is right<\/strong><\/em>. \u00a0It takes a strong person to put oneself aside.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves,<br \/>\nyou must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy,<br \/>\nkindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.<br \/>\nColossians 3:12<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Now finally, all of you should be like-minded and sympathetic,<br \/>\nshould love believers, and be compassionate and humble&#8230;<br \/>\n1 Peter 3:8 HCSB<\/p>\n<p>But, <em>why<\/em> should we be humble? \u00a01 Peter 5:5 (AMP) offers the best reason I can think of:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Clothe (apron) yourselves, all of you, with humility [as the garb of a servant, so that its covering cannot possibly be stripped from you, with freedom from pride and arrogance] toward one another. For God sets Himself against the proud (the insolent, the overbearing, the disdainful, the presumptuous, the boastful)\u2014[and He opposes, frustrates, and defeats them], but gives grace (favor, blessing) to the humble.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I would much rather bask in God\u2019s grace than have God oppose me; wouldn\u2019t you? Psalm 25:9 states that if we are willing to be humble, God Himself will teach us His ways. \u00a0I couldn\u2019t ask for a better teacher! \u00a0Plus there are so many benefits to being humble:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If My people who are called by My name humble themselves, pray and seek My face, and turn from their evil ways, then I will hear from heaven, forgive their sin, and heal their land.<br \/>\n2 Chronicles 7:14 HCSB<\/li>\n<li>I will look favorably on this kind of person: one who is humble, submissive in spirit, and trembles at My word.<br \/>\nIsaiah 66:2 HCSB<\/li>\n<li>Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their hearts. You will listen carefully<br \/>\nPsalm 10:17<\/li>\n<li>The humble will eat and be satisfied.<br \/>\nPsalm 22:26a HCSB<\/li>\n<li>But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.<br \/>\nPsalm 37:11 NASB<\/li>\n<li>The humble will see their God at work and be glad.<br \/>\nPsalm 69:32a NLT<\/li>\n<li>&#8230;a humble spirit will obtain honor.<br \/>\nProverbs 29:23b NASB<\/li>\n<li>Humble yourselves in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you.<br \/>\nJames 4:10 NASB<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The world may try to convince us humility is a weakness, but all it offers in return is self-satisfaction. \u00a0It cannot offer anything that compares to what God offers the humble. \u00a0And there is not one of these benefits I am willing to give up.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"> * \u00a0 ~ \u00a0 \u2665 \u00a0 ~ \u00a0 \u271e \u00a0 ~ \u00a0 \u2665 \u00a0 ~ \u00a0 * <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Father God, we thank You for Your grace. \u00a0We thank You for the blessings You are waiting to bestow upon us if we are willing to humbly submit ourselves to You. \u00a0What the world has to offer pales in comparison. \u00a0Gently remind us when our attitude shifts away from humility. \u00a0Continue to help us as we struggle to become humble and teach us Your ways. \u00a0In Your Holy name I pray, Amen \u2013 It is so!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>He leads the humble in what is right and teaches them His way.
