{"id":22161,"date":"2014-10-06T00:30:25","date_gmt":"2014-10-06T04:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=22161"},"modified":"2014-10-05T18:18:42","modified_gmt":"2014-10-05T22:18:42","slug":"pear-butter-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/10\/06\/pear-butter-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Pear Butter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m just warning you\u2014if you make this pear butter, your family is going to be looking around for a pie! \u00a0The aroma is amazing! \u00a0This is a super simple recipe and requires very little attention as it cooks. \u00a0I put it together in the morning, and it gave a very \u201cautumnal\u201d feel to the house inspiring me to &lt;finally&gt; switch out the summery wreaths to more fall-ish ones and adding little bits of fall decor around and about!<\/p>\n<p>This recipe definitely fits in with our healthy but oh-so-yummy POV, too! \u00a0If you are someone who knows how to can (not in my skill set&#8230;at least as of yet!), this would be an excellent choice to fill some jars and store them away. I am just keeping ours in the \u2018fridge while it lasts. \u00a0Someone suggested to me to add a small bowlful to a cheese platter; oh, my&#8230;wouldn\u2019t that be yummy?!! \u00a0Here are a few ideas of ways I am thinking of to use the pear butter. \u00a0(I would <em>love<\/em> to hear your ideas, too&#8230;please share!)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>mixed in with granola and yogurt<\/li>\n<li>topping a bowl of hot oatmeal<\/li>\n<li>spread on a piece of toast or a bagel w\/cream cheese<\/li>\n<li>on a peanut butter or almond butter sandwich<\/li>\n<li>served with pork chops or a pork tenderloin<\/li>\n<li>mixed in with roasted veggies<\/li>\n<li>base for a vinaigrette<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">Pear Butter<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-22.26.47.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-22164\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-22.26.47-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"2014-10-04 22.26.47\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-22.26.47-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-22.26.47-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ingredients<\/span><\/strong>:<br \/>\n2-2+1\/2 pounds of ripe pears, peeled and cored<br \/>\n1 large apple, peeled and cored<br \/>\n1 cup of water<br \/>\n2 chai teabags<br \/>\n3 small pieces of crystallized ginger OR 1\/4 cup liquid sweetener<br \/>\n(i.e., honey, agave, maybe even maple syrup or molasses)<br \/>\n1\/2 vanilla bean, seeds scraped out<a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-14.38.27.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-22165\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-14.38.27-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"2014-10-04 14.38.27\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-14.38.27-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-14.38.27-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-04-14.38.27-300x400.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon cinnamon<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon cardamom<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon nutmeg<br \/>\n1\/4 teaspoon sea salt<br \/>\njuice of 1\/2 of a lemon<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>directions<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>chop fruit into smallish cubes (1-1+1\/2&#8243;)<\/li>\n<li>in a 2 quart saucepan, bring water, fruit, and tea bags to a boil; lower heat and allow to simmer for 30 minutes<\/li>\n<li>discard tea bag<\/li>\n<li>using * an immersion blender puree the cooked fruit<\/li>\n<li>pour into a mini-crockpot and cook on low for 2 hours, stirring every 20 minute or so<\/li>\n<li>after 2 hours, add in the seasonings and the lemon juice; stir really well and cook for 1 more hour. it is finished when the quantity has reduced by 1\/4 to 1\/3, and it is nice and thick<\/li>\n<li>blend to make it REALLY smooth! \u00a0done! \u00a0enjoy!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>NOTE: it is super important not to tightly seal the crockpot or else the pear butter will become watery and not cook down into a nice, thick consistency.
