Growing up in church, he did not want to go into Christian music&#8230;he wanted to do country. \u00a0After signing with his first record label and producing an album, he decided to change record labels and move to Christian music.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Gokey married his high school sweetheart who died just before he auditioned for American Idol. She had encouraged him to participate and, four weeks before the auditions, she died from complications after having surgery for a congenital heart condition. After completing the series, he began dating\u00a0<span style=\"color: #252525;\">Leyicet Peralta, whom he married in 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Danny wrote and released <em>Hope In Front Of Me<\/em> in 2014. \u00a0He is inspiring those with his song to know that God is real.
