{"id":19771,"date":"2014-05-20T00:20:33","date_gmt":"2014-05-20T04:20:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=19771"},"modified":"2014-05-19T22:47:08","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T02:47:08","slug":"19771","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/05\/20\/19771\/","title":{"rendered":"Proper Thanks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13840\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg\" alt=\"SeekingHimLogo\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg 560w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness,<br \/>\nAnd for His wonderful works to the children of men!<br \/>\nFor He satisfies the longing soul,<br \/>\nAnd fills the hungry soul with goodness.<br \/>\nPsalms 107:8-9<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I think that one of the first things we\u2019re taught as a child, and one of the first things we teach our own children, is the importance of giving thanks&#8230;of saying \u2018thank you\u2019. \u00a0Two words that carry such weight. \u00a0Two words that when <em><strong>not<\/strong> spoken<\/em> can turn a good mood bad, and that when <em><strong>are<\/strong> spoken<\/em> can restore one\u2019s belief in humanity.<\/p>\n<p>Giving thanks is definitely an area I would like to work on. \u00a0I have a habit of offering a quick \u201cThanks, God!\u201d when I find the phone I&#8217;ve inadvertently covered with a pillow, or when the caller ID displays the kid\u2019s school\u2014and it\u2019s not a call for trouble\u2014but simply a field trip reminder. \u00a0When He makes way for a bill to be paid&#8230;when He allows me to walk away from a car accident that I should not have survived&#8230;when He wakes me up. \u00a0Are they always followed with a true \u2018Thank You, Father\u2019? \u00a0I&#8217;ve noticed that I often expect my thanks simply to be known. \u00a0In my heart I am giving thanks, but often the expression remains right there, and is not always directed where they need to be. \u00a0I\u2019m often rushing through life finding that I feel too busy to give proper thanks.<\/p>\n<p>I know that I need to cultivate a habit of giving true thanks to God\u2014for His wonderful works, for satisfying my longing soul, for easing a hunger that food wouldn&#8217;t began to relieve. He has done so much that He deserves thanks to be yelled from mountain tops.<\/p>\n<p>Today I thank Him for His word, for His grace and mercy, for His love that continues despite my short comings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Let\u2019s pray<\/strong><\/span>:<br \/>\nOh, that men (we, I) would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men (myself, my friends and family)! \u00a0For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.<\/p>\n<p>Thank You, Lord, for all You have done. Thank You for doing these things even we fail to thank You as we should. Lord, place Your hand on our hearts and offer a gentle reminder to slow down and give credit where credit is due.
