We have now entered the season of Lent. \u00a0For many Christians, Lent is taken as a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter where God miraculously redeemed mankind by resurrecting His Son from the dead. It is also a time to consider what Jesus said and did; and how we should be living in light of His Words. \u00a0\u271e \u2665<\/p>\n

During this season, here on the\u00a0Seeking Him<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0devotional blog, we have chosen to focus our devotionals on Jesus\u2019 instructions and admonition communicated in Matthew chapter 5\u2014the Beatitudes. \u00a0Jesus said, \u201cBlessed are\u2026\u201d and He went on to give instruction as to how to be \u201cblessed<\/em>.\u201d \u00a0To be \u2018blessed\u2019 is to \u2018be happy, or to be envied.\u2019 \u00a0 Truly for the Christian, we ARE blessed\u2014oh, how very blessed we are! \u00a0Those who observe our lives should clearly be able to tell that we ARE blessed\u2014and that we KNOW it! \u271e \u2665<\/p>\n

Please consider Jesus\u2019 instructions along with us. \u00a0We pray that our words will encourage you and spur you on to be prepare your hearts for the joyous celebration of His Resurrection! \u00a0\u271e \u2665<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. <\/strong><\/span><\/em>
\nMatthew 5:5<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Lately my children have been talking about some situations at school\u2014injustices, bullies, teachers\u2014that they feel have treated them unfairly. \u00a0We have encountered people in the world who are not as nice as we would like them to be…the secretary at the school, the cashier, the server at the restaurant. \u00a0And I feel like they are always looking at me to gauge my response and to see how I handle the not-so-cordial behavior of others. \u00a0And to be quite honest, a lot of the time, meek<\/em> <\/span>is not the word that initially comes to mind.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve read several definitions of the word meek<\/span><\/em>, \u201c…gentle, self-control, tender, and free from pride\u201d are a few that I have come across (like I said, most times this is not me). \u00a0So I find myself in a battle when I\u2019m facing these situations and I have little eyes on me. And, no, this is not the first Scripture that comes to mind; but as I was reading through it, I realized that my meekness<\/span>, or the lack thereof, is constantly on display.<\/p>\n

After a disagreement with her teacher, my daughter asked what we were going to do about it. \u00a0My response was that there are times in life where you don\u2019t do anything…you don\u2019t fight or argue…and you give it to God and move forward. \u00a0Though she doesn\u2019t fully understand this right now, someday she will. \u00a0When the Scripture says that \u2018the meek<\/em>…shall inherit the earth\u2019 I like to think of it in the moment. \u00a0 When I refrain from telling the person who upset me what my flesh wants to say, I\u2019m inheriting the earth, not literally, but for that moment. I\u2019m showing that, even though I could say something, I\u2019m not going to. \u00a0I\u2019m going to love them through the situation and move on. \u00a0I\u2019m going to \u2018Let go and let God\u2019.<\/p>\n

But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added to you.<\/p>\n

Matthew 6:33<\/p>\n

For most, meekness<\/span> does not come naturally. Seek first the Kingdom of God. In situations where your flesh is battling to share your thoughts with those who have wronged you, seek Him first. \u00a0Pray…go to God…and breathe.<\/p>\n

Meekness<\/span> isn\u2019t easy; but it is desirable by Christ, and that makes it desirable to us.<\/h4>\n

Let\u2019s Pray<\/strong><\/span>: \u00a0Lord, to be honest when I think of me being meek, I don\u2019t see it. \u00a0I don\u2019t see it in a lot of people these days, but I know it\u2019s possible. \u00a0I know that we can operate in self-control, in submission, and in tenderness. \u00a0Lord, help us to remember to seek You first when our meekness feels threatened, and that this is another way in which we can display Your light to others. \u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name we pray, amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
