We have now entered the season of Lent. \u00a0For many Christians, Lent is taken as a time of preparation for the celebration of Easter where God miraculously redeemed mankind by resurrecting His Son from the dead. It is also a time to consider what Jesus said and did; and how we should be living in light of His Words. \u00a0\u271e \u2665<\/p>\n

During this season, here on the\u00a0Seeking Him<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0devotional blog, we have chosen to focus our devotionals on Jesus\u2019 instructions and admonition communicated in Matthew chapter 5\u2014the Beatitudes. \u00a0Jesus said, \u201cBlessed are\u2026\u201d and He went on to give instruction as to how to be \u201cblessed<\/em>.\u201d \u00a0To be \u2018blessed\u2019 is to \u2018be happy, or to be envied.\u2019 \u00a0 Truly for the Christian, we ARE blessed\u2014oh, how very blessed we are! \u00a0Those who observe our lives should clearly be able to tell that we ARE blessed\u2014and that we KNOW it! \u271e \u2665<\/p>\n

Please consider Jesus\u2019 instructions along with us. \u00a0We pray that our words will encourage you and spur you on to be prepare your hearts for the joyous celebration of His Resurrection! \u00a0\u271e \u2665<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Blessed are the meek (those who are humble) for they will inherit the earth. <\/span><\/strong>
\nMatthew 5:5<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The word meek<\/em><\/span> is often used interchangeably with the word humble<\/em>. \u00a0Common definitions include “…gentle, tender, calm, not easily provoked, free from pride and not occupied with self.” \u00a0Vines Bible Dictionary defines meekness<\/span><\/em> as “grace of the soul.” \u00a0I like that. \u00a0It speaks of the spirit within, the spirit with which we not only deal with the external (the circumstances of our life) but also the internal (how we accept God’s dealings with us). \u00a0Meekness<\/em> <\/span>is not just a characteristic or trait; it is an attitude, a way of life. \u00a0Being meek<\/span> <\/em>is not to be confused with, or seen as, weakness. It is more like self-control because we are aware of the infinite resources of God available to each of us in every situation.<\/p>\n

So, why is it important to be meek<\/em><\/span>? \u00a0There are many benefits. \u00a0As Matthew 5:5 says “the meek<\/span>…will inherit the earth.” \u00a0This isn’t just about a place to be acquired or obtained. \u00a0It is God making His favor real in our lives. \u00a0Revelations 21:7 tells us “<they>…shall inherit all things.” \u00a0This inheritance is to receive the blessing of God as a gift. \u00a0It is our reward, our birthright, as children of the Most High King. \u00a0Doesn’t that just make your heart sing?<\/p>\n

There are other benefits to meekness<\/span> as well (found in the Scriptures below):<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Psalm 25:9 “He guides the humble\u201d (AMP) or \u201cHe leads the meek<\/span>\u201d (NASB)<\/li>\n
  • Psalm 69:32 “The humble will see their God at work and be glad”<\/li>\n
  • Psalm 147:6 God sustains, supports, lifts up the meek<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Isaiah 29:19 “…the meek<\/span> will increase their joy\u201d (AMP) or “…the humble will be filled with fresh joy from The Lord\u201d (NLT)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Great reasons to be meek<\/span>! I would not want to miss out on any of these blessings. But the best reason for being meek<\/span> is found in 1 Peter 3:4: “a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God\u2019s sight.” \u00a0Meekness<\/span> is very precious in the eyes of The Lord!<\/p>\n

    Heavenly Father, thank You for the many blessings You bestow upon us and the many opportunities we have to be blessed. \u00a0Being meek is not always easy, it does not come naturally to most of us. \u00a0But meekness is of great value and importance to You. \u00a0Lord, we ask that You help us develop a quiet and gentle spirit and willingly accept and submit to You and Your ways. \u00a0For we want our lives to be precious and pleasing to You. \u00a0In the precious name of Jesus, I ask this. \u00a0Amen…so be it!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
