{"id":18532,"date":"2014-03-17T00:30:58","date_gmt":"2014-03-17T04:30:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=18532"},"modified":"2014-03-16T19:04:35","modified_gmt":"2014-03-16T23:04:35","slug":"healthy-st-paddys-day-shakes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/03\/17\/healthy-st-paddys-day-shakes\/","title":{"rendered":"Healthy St. Paddy&#8217;s Day Shakes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry&#8230;breaking into our little series on spring veggies \u2018cause I just have to share these <span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>healthy but-oh-so-yummy!<\/em><\/span> green minty \u201cshakes\u201d with you! \u00a0It is tradition to celebrate St. Paddy\u2019s Day in our family&#8230;heritage and all, y\u2019know! \u00a0(Your name can\u2019t be <em>coleen ann brigit mcelroy hayden<\/em>&#8230;and <strong>not<\/strong> recognize your Irish background!)<\/p>\n<p>So, I have to admit to indulging &lt;in the past!&gt; in a Shamrock Shake from a certain fast food place&#8230;uh-huh&#8230;you know! \u00a0But we are working on having a healthier eating lifestyle now&#8230;by God\u2019s grace!&#8230;and so I took a little peek \u2018n see about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mcdonalds.com\/us\/en\/food\/product_nutrition.mccafe.793.793.Shamrock-McCafe-Shake-12-fl-oz-cup.html\" target=\"_blank\">nutrition facts (from the manufacturer<\/a>) for that minty shake of my past. \u00a0Can you say \u201cHoly Saint Paddy!\u201d \u00a0530 calories, 86 grams of carbs (of which 73 were sugar carbs, mostly corn syrup), and 15 grams of fat in a 16 ounce cup!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/healthyshamrockshake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-18533\" alt=\"healthyshamrockshake\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/healthyshamrockshake-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/healthyshamrockshake-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/03\/healthyshamrockshake.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I think you will find this <em>healthy but-oh-so-yummy<\/em> version equally satisfying and delicious. I would love to hear from you!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/span>:<br \/>\n1 scoop protein powder<br \/>\n2 cups almond milk<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon almond extract<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon peppermint extract<br \/>\n1 packet of stevia sweetener<br \/>\n2 hefty tablespoons of vanilla greek yogurt<br \/>\n1 ripe avocado<br \/>\n2 handfuls of raw spinach<br \/>\n2 cut-up frozen bananas<br \/>\n4 or 5 ice cubes<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/span>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Start off with all the liquid ingredients, the protein powder and stevia; blend for 10-15 seconds.<\/li>\n<li>Layer in the balance of the ingredients. Whirl away \u2018til nicely blended!<\/li>\n<li>This made more than enough for two big servings; the glasses pictured hold more than 14 ounces each.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>** Certainly can be prepared in a standard blender, too.
