{"id":18006,"date":"2014-02-22T00:05:42","date_gmt":"2014-02-22T05:05:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=18006"},"modified":"2014-02-21T22:00:10","modified_gmt":"2014-02-22T03:00:10","slug":"christlife-quiet-time-part-three","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/22\/christlife-quiet-time-part-three\/","title":{"rendered":"CHRISTLife &#8212; A Quiet Time (Part Three)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1391.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-7262\" alt=\"IMG_1391\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1391-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1391-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/IMG_1391.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Each Saturday recently we have been looking in-depth at a few of the most important aspects of having a quiet time\u2014or as some folks call it\u2014a devotional time. \u00a0Already we have talked about two very foundational aspects of a quiet time\u2014Bible reading and singing praises. \u00a0This week we are remembering the importance of being thankful and expressing our gratitude to our Father.<\/p>\n<p>Truly, is there anything else that you can think of that can so change your heart\u2019s attitude more than thankfulness? \u00a0I don\u2019t think it presumptuous to say that every one of us has had times of worry, sorrow, despair, grief, anguish, pain in which we turned our hearts to seek God and found ourselves praising and thanking Him for His goodness and kindness towards us. \u00a0True?<\/p>\n<p>Before we go any further, let\u2019s stop for just five minutes and worship our God voicing our thanks and our praise!<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zTThPMWzxRs\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><br \/>\n~ \u00a0Thank You \u00a0&#8211; Hillsong \/ Songwriter &#8211; Reuben Morgan \u00a0~<\/center>Thank You for Your kindness, thank You for Your mercy<br \/>\nThank You for the Cross, thank You for the price You paid<\/p>\n<p>Thank You for salvation, thank You for unending grace<br \/>\nThank You for Your hope, thank You for this life You gave<\/p>\n<p><em>There is no one like You&#8230;There is no one like You, God<\/em><br \/>\n<em> All my hope is in You, Jesus Jesus<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>To Your name we give all the glory<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> To Your name we give all the praise<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\n<em><strong> And You&#8217;re alive\u2014Our God everlasting\u2014let Your face shine on us<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thank You for Your promise, thank You for Your favor<br \/>\nThank You for Your love&#8230;everything You&#8217;ve done for me<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The Psalmist, writer of many, many songs of thanks and praise, had this in his heart:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;<br \/>\nfor His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever!<br \/>\nWho can put into words and tell the mighty deeds of the Lord?<br \/>\nOr who can show forth all the praise [that is due Him]?<br \/>\nPsalms 106:1 and 2 AMP<\/p>\n<p>Who can speak forth enough words to tell all the wonderful, mighty things that God has done? \u00a0Or who can utter all the praise that is due Him? \u00a0Clearly the simple answer is \u2018No one.\u2019 \u00a0But that doesn\u2019t mean we don\u2019t still thrill to voice our gratitude and thankfulness to our Great God!<\/p>\n<p>I checked out Webster\u2019s definition of thankfulness:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>THANK&#8217;FUL,<\/strong><\/span> adjective.<br \/>\nGrateful;\u00a0impressed with a sense of kindness received, and ready to acknowledge it.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 The Lord&#8217;s supper is to be celebrated with a thankful remembrance of His sufferings and death.<br \/>\n\u2022 Be thankful to Him, and bless his name (Psalm 100).<\/p>\n<p>I think Mr. Webster\u2019s definition clearly shows that thankfulness is both <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">thought<\/span> and<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> action<\/span>\u2014you \u2018sense\u2019 having received &lt;God\u2019s&gt; kindness AND you \u2018acknowledge\u2019 it. Here\u2019s a great example:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all you lands!<br \/>\nServe the Lord with gladness!<br \/>\nCome before His presence with singing!<br \/>\nKnow that the Lord is God!<br \/>\nIt is He Who has made us, not we ourselves [and we are His]!<br \/>\nWe are His people and the sheep of His pasture.<br \/>\nEnter into His gates with thanksgiving<br \/>\nand a thank offering and into His courts with praise!<br \/>\nBe thankful and say so to Him,<br \/>\nbless and affectionately praise His name!<br \/>\nFor the Lord is good;<br \/>\nHis mercy and loving-kindness are everlasting,<br \/>\nHis faithfulness and truth endure to all generations.<br \/>\nPsalm 100<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Psalmist was confessing\u2014remembering\u2014just a few things he was grateful for, AND voicing his gratitude. \u00a0We can\u2014we should\u2014do the same! We have oh-so-very-much to be thankful for, amen? \u00a0We definitely \u2018sense\u2019 God\u2019s abundant goodness and kindness to us, true? \u00a0And we acknowledge it through our words of gratitude and thankfulness.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I will thank Yahweh with all my heart;<br \/>\nI will declare all Your wonderful works.<br \/>\nPsalm 9:1<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I cried to You, O Lord, and to the Lord I made supplication.<br \/>\nHear, O Lord, have mercy and be gracious to me!
