{"id":17708,"date":"2014-02-10T00:05:52","date_gmt":"2014-02-10T05:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=17708"},"modified":"2014-02-09T21:20:11","modified_gmt":"2014-02-10T02:20:11","slug":"christlife-twentyone-dead-sin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/10\/christlife-twentyone-dead-sin\/","title":{"rendered":"CHRISTLife &#8212; TwentyOne: Dead To Sin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #21314f;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cl-dead-to-sin.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-17724\" alt=\"cl dead to sin\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cl-dead-to-sin.jpg\" width=\"483\" height=\"359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cl-dead-to-sin.jpg 483w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/cl-dead-to-sin-300x222.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 483px) 100vw, 483px\" \/><\/a>Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> When Christ, who is our Life, is revealed,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #21314f;\"> Colossians 3:3-5<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As incredible as these truths are&#8230;they ARE the Truth! \u00a0God said so! \u00a0So, if God says, \u201cYou have been raised up with Christ; keep seeking the things above&#8230;\u201d \u00a0then that is what we must do! \u00a0And we must remember that this IS possible! \u00a0This is &lt;now&gt; the real y.o.u. (and me, too)!<\/p>\n<p>We have been working for awhile now on changing the images we hold in our hearts and our minds. \u00a0No longer always thinking of ourselves with the negative connotations and names that we did before, but confessing, \u201cI AM who God says I am!\u201d \u00a0And so I am:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">dead to sin<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">alive to God<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">righteous<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">no longer a slave to sin<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">risen to God<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">resurrected with a new life<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mrs. Myers writes, \u201cThis new, Christ-centered view of who we are (which is unquestionably true, for God cannot lie) provides the basis for living a righteous, obedient life. \u00a0The more we see who we are in Christ, the more the idea of flirting with sin becomes inconceivable&#8230;\u201d (page 90). \u00a0Consider this in a practical way:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #21314f;\">Since I am alive with Christ in me, I can live as righteously as He and be obedient to God the Father. \u00a0How ludicrous then is any consideration of sin (or \u201cflirting with sin, as Mrs. Myers puts it). Would Jesus have? \u00a0No; \u00a0He never sinned.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,<br \/>\nJesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.<br \/>\nFor we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,<br \/>\nbut One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.<br \/>\nHebrews 4:14 and 15<\/p>\n<p>He is always available to help us, to encourage us. \u00a0We have to remember that we are dead to sin&#8230;and ourselves, like our Lord, not give in to the temptation. \u00a0We CAN do this; God says so. \u00a0Remember \u201c<span style=\"color: #21314f;\">I AM who God says I am<\/span>\u201d\u2014I AM dead to sin. \u00a0This means we don&#8217;t have to live with \u201csexual vice, impurity, sensual appetites, unholy desires, greed, covetousness (or any other sinful desire that you might struggle with\u2014depression, addictions, self-pity, selfishness, ________, ________ (fill in the blank!). \u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=philippians+4%3A13&amp;version=AMP\" target=\"_blank\">Philippians 4:13<\/a> (AMP) says we have strength for all things in Christ, we&#8217;re ready for anything, and we are self-sufficient<em> in His sufficiency<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">And you He made alive, when you were dead through the trespasses and sins<br \/>\nin which you once walked, following the course of this world,<br \/>\nfollowing the prince of the power of the air,<br \/>\nthe spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience.<br \/>\nAmong these we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,<br \/>\nfollowing the desires of body and mind,<br \/>\nand so we were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.<br \/>\nBut God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses,<br \/>\nmade us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),<br \/>\nEphesians 2:1-5<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Amplified Bible translates verses 4 and 5 like this, listen:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But God\u2014so rich is He in His mercy!<br \/>\nBecause of and in order to satisfy the great and wonderful and intense love<br \/>\nwith which He loved us, Even when we were dead (slain) by [our own] shortcomings<br \/>\nand trespasses, He made us alive together in fellowship and in union with Christ;<br \/>\n[He gave us the very life of Christ Himself,<br \/>\nthe same new life with which He quickened Him, for] it is by grace<br \/>\n(His favor and mercy which you did not deserve) that you are saved<br \/>\n(delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ\u2019s salvation).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Isn\u2019t that beautiful?!!<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">* ~ * ~ * ~ * ~ *<\/h4>\n<p>Let\u2019s pray the words of this anointed prayer together:<br \/>\nEphesians 3:14-21<br \/>\nFor this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of His glory He may grant you to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; \u00a0that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, \u00a0that you may be filled with all the fulness of God. \u00a0Now to Him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. \u00a0Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
