{"id":1768,"date":"2012-09-25T06:00:02","date_gmt":"2012-09-25T11:00:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=1768"},"modified":"2013-01-24T18:41:57","modified_gmt":"2013-01-24T23:41:57","slug":"authority-and-submission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2012\/09\/25\/authority-and-submission\/","title":{"rendered":"Authority and Submission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HAPPY TUESDAY EVERYONE!!\u00a0 Last week we talked about putting <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">\u201cFirst Things First<\/span><\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0 In that discussion we talked about what it means to put God\u2019s Kingdom FIRST.\u00a0 To do that properly, we need to know why we are to do that.\u00a0 Last week we looked at Matthew 6:33, \u201cBut put God\u2019s kingdom first.\u00a0 Do what he wants you to do.\u00a0 Then all of those things will also be given to you.\u201d\u00a0 Today we are going to talk about the next sentence, \u201cDo what HE wants you to do.\u201d\u00a0 The only ways we can truly do that is by accepting Jesus\u2019 authority over our lives and submit to that authority.\u00a0 Those are two pretty scary words, so don\u2019t shut off your brain on me just yet.\u00a0 J\u00a0 We can get this\u2026<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So I looked up the definitions of Authority and Submission for us and this is what I found:<\/p>\n<p>AUTHORITY is the power or right to control, judge, or prohibit the actions of others; \u00a0a person or group of people having this power, such as a government, police force, etc; a position that commands such a power or right (often in the phrase in authority ); and \u00a0the ability to influence or control others: a man of authority.<\/p>\n<p>SUBMISSION is an act or instance of submitting \/ to give over or yield to the power or authority of another.<\/p>\n<p>Stick with me here.\u00a0 I have an issue with GIVING away my authority.\u00a0 I used to have a problem submitting my will to someone else\u2019s (ok.\u00a0 Sometimes I still have a problem with submission).\u00a0 :-\/<\/p>\n<p>My Bible tells me that there is One who deserves to have Authority over MY life and I should Submit myself daily to that authority.\u00a0 There is this man, Jesus that died for my sins.\u00a0 He knew what kind of person I would be, what kind of trouble I would get into, what I needed to be saved from myself.<\/p>\n<p>In Romans 5:6-8 it says, \u201cYou see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.\u00a0 Very rarely will anyone die for a righteous man, though for a good man someone might possibly die.\u00a0 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:\u00a0 while we were still sinners, CHRIST DIED FOR US.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If that wasn\u2019t plain enough, my favorite disciple, Peter says in 1 Peter 3:18, \u201cFor Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, TO BRING YOU TO GOD.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>God\u2019s authority touches every area of our lives.\u00a0 When we get that relationship settled, everything else falls into place.<\/p>\n<p>This is a visual image of how authority works.\u00a0 I want to see how many verses in the Bible we can come up with to support each of these areas of authority.\u00a0 What does and where does the Bible talk about how we are to act in our family?\u00a0 Where should we begin to find out what God says about that?<\/p>\n<p>What does the Bible say about how we are to treat our Government leaders?\u00a0 Sometimes we don\u2019t agree with the way they do things and we hear some pretty harsh language thrown around.\u00a0 Is that OK for a Christ-follower to do?\u00a0 Are we showing biblical respect for their authority?\u00a0 What about in our church?\u00a0 Do we give the Pastor, Teachers, and leaders the respect they deserve for offering their service to us?\u00a0 Some of us have jobs or will have jobs in the future and it would be wise to see what God has to say about how we treat our employers as well.<\/p>\n<p>I would like you to take some time and begin to search out what the Word has to say about <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Authority<\/span> and our responsibility to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Submit<\/span> to it.\u00a0 Post a comment and let me know that you have found at least one verse supporting this topic.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe this is the first time you have attempted to find a certain topic in the Bible.\u00a0 I\u2019m so glad you are here.\u00a0 Most Bibles have a section in the back called the Concordance.\u00a0 It is arranged topically.\u00a0 You look up \u201cauthority\u201d just like you would in a dictionary.\u00a0 It will give you verses to begin reading to see what God has to say about that topic.\u00a0 Some of your Bibles will have a dictionary in the back as well, use it when you don\u2019t understand certain words or phrases.<\/p>\n<p>It is my prayer that we can grow deeper in the Word of God together.\u00a0 We don\u2019t want to meet God in heaven and be wearing our spiritual diapers and sucking on a binky.<\/p>\n<p>I want to leave you with a thought from Mother Teresa (if you don\u2019t know who she is, look her up on Google):<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>There is always the danger that we may just do the work for the sake of the work.
