{"id":17617,"date":"2014-02-06T00:30:07","date_gmt":"2014-02-06T05:30:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=17617"},"modified":"2014-02-05T18:30:22","modified_gmt":"2014-02-05T23:30:22","slug":"wise-man-built-house-upon-rock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/06\/wise-man-built-house-upon-rock\/","title":{"rendered":"The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the Wee Sing Bible Songs CD, this song gets special treatment. \u00a0We do movements along with the words &#8211; jazz hands down for &#8220;the rain came down&#8221; and jazz hands up for &#8220;the floods came up.&#8221; \u00a0My girls&#8217; <span style=\"color: #800080;\">favorite<\/span> part is one we added on: \u00a0a big raspberry after &#8220;the house on the sand went SPLAT!&#8221; \u00a0You gotta be silly sometimes!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The wise man built his house upon the rock, (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And the rains came tumbling down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The rains came down and the floods came up (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And the house on the rock stood firm.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The foolish man built his house upon the sand (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And the rains came tumbling down<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The rains came down and the floods came up (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And the house on the sand went SPLAT!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">So build your house on the Lord Jesus Christ (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">And the blessings will come down!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">The blessings will come down as the prayers go up (x3)<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\">So build your house on Christ!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Eu5bBDRpzPM\" height=\"315\" width=\"420\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/center>I was thinking about this song in church this Sunday when our pastor was preaching on Matthew 6. \u00a0In verse 18, Jesus \u00a0says,<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.<\/p>\n<p>What an amazing blessing from God&#8212;to be proclaimed the <strong><em>rock<\/em><\/strong>! \u00a0Think &#8220;bedrock&#8221; or &#8220;rock-solid&#8221; &#8211; these are phrases that announce <em>strength, faithfulness, reliability, and value<\/em>. \u00a0Peter must have been so thrilled and encouraged!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">But just five verses later, Peter is called a different kind of rock. \u00a0When Jesus explained to his disciples that he was going to be tortured and killed, Peter exclaimed, &#8220;No Lord!&#8221; \u00a0Then Jesus rebuked him, saying, &#8220;Get behind me, Satan! \u00a0You are a stumbling block to me; \u00a0you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.&#8221; \u00a0A <em><strong>stumbling block<\/strong><\/em> is a <em>hindrance, an obstacle to be avoided<\/em>, and something that could do real damage if you trip over it.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, we know how the story ends&#8212;Peter has some shaky moments, including denying Christ three times, but ultimately his faith in Jesus wins, and God does indeed use Peter as the foundation of the Church. \u00a0It is a reminder to me that <span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>every day we have to chose what kind of rock we are going to be<\/em><\/span>. \u00a0Will we be a bedrock, solid in our faith, and available to be a source of stability and help to our family, friends, and whomever God places in our path that day?
