{"id":17578,"date":"2014-02-12T00:55:12","date_gmt":"2014-02-12T05:55:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=17578"},"modified":"2014-02-11T22:53:21","modified_gmt":"2014-02-12T03:53:21","slug":"homemade-protein-bars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/02\/12\/homemade-protein-bars\/","title":{"rendered":"Homemade Protein Bars"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/AskCrystal.jpg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-12069\" alt=\"AskCrystal.jpg\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/AskCrystal.jpg.jpg\" width=\"450\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/AskCrystal.jpg.jpg 450w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/AskCrystal.jpg-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This month, I am focusing on sharing some of<strong> my favorite<\/strong> easy healthy recipes and options as with my <a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/2014\/02\/05\/got-eat-mashed-cauliflower-recipe\/\" target=\"_blank\">mashed cauliflower recipe<\/a> last week. \u00a0Protein bars are a quick option for women on the go. \u00a0 However, trying to determine which one is the best option can be confusing. \u00a0We need something that is high in protein, low in sugar with a healthy amount of calories and taste good. \u00a0If you have found a particular bar that you purchase often, you may have noticed that it can get a little pricey. \u00a0After evaluating how much I spend on protein bars, I realize there has to be a way for me to make my own homemade protein bars.\u00a0 I tried several different recipes and finally discovered my own combination that is high in protein, low in sugar and taste good.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-17582\" alt=\"photo (3)\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/photo-3.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Chewy Protein Bars<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2 cups <strong>quick<\/strong> oats<\/li>\n<li>5 scoops of Whey Chocolate Peanut Butter powder<\/li>\n<li>5 tablespoons peanut butter<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup raw almonds<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 cup Skim milk<\/li>\n<li>3 tablespoons dark chocolate chips<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Choose your favorite oats, peanut butter, and chocolate chips.\u00a0 For those who are new to Whey vanilla protein powder, you can find it at most large grocery stores.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Directions<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nIn a large bowl, combine oats and protein powder. Add peanut butter and stir till peanut butter is coated. Slowly add 1\/2 cup skim milk, stirring throughout (add just enough liquid to the mix so that it forms a batter-like consistency). Grind almonds in food processor or blender to your liking. Add almonds and chocolate chips and stir into mixture.<\/p>\n<p>Line an 8\u00d78 pan with wax paper, add mixture to pan. Cover mixture with another layer of wax paper and press down till the mixture is pressed flat. Refrigerate 4 hrs, then cut into bars. Store bars in container kept in refrigerator or freezer.\u00a0 (I have found they stay together better in freezer and thaw enough to eat within a minute.)<\/p>\n<p>Cut into 9 pieces.<\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Nutritional info per bar <\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Calories: 258<\/p>\n<p>Protein: 20gms<\/p>\n<p>Sugar: 5gms<\/p>\n<p>Breakfast can be hard to figure out when in a rush. If you don&#8217;t prepare or think it through, you can end up skipping an important meal which can lead to an unhealthy decision on the way to work or overeating at lunch. Take a few minutes on the weekend to put these together so you are prepared for those crazy mornings when you do not have time for breakfast.
