{"id":17001,"date":"2014-01-16T00:30:29","date_gmt":"2014-01-16T05:30:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=17001"},"modified":"2014-01-15T23:44:39","modified_gmt":"2014-01-16T04:44:39","slug":"give-oil-lamp","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2014\/01\/16\/give-oil-lamp\/","title":{"rendered":"Give Me Oil for My Lamp"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-16629\" alt=\"psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv.jpg\" width=\"341\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv.jpg 341w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/psalmshymnsspiritualsongskjv-300x175.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 341px) 100vw, 341px\" \/><\/a>I have two daughters, ages 5 and 2. \u00a0Last year I bought them the &#8220;Wee Sing:Bible Songs&#8221; CD, so we could have something fun to listen to in the car. \u00a0It&#8217;s got all the greatest hits you remember from Sunday School, no matter how old you are &#8211; &#8220;Jesus Loves Me&#8221;, &#8220;Deep and Wide&#8221;, and my 2 year-old&#8217;s favorite, &#8220;Zaccheus.&#8221; \u00a0The good news is, they <em>LOVE<\/em> it. \u00a0They love to sing to each and every song (all 63 of them), and ask me questions about the lyrics that lead to more conversations about God and Jesus. \u00a0The bad news is, they<em><strong> LOOOOOVE<\/strong><\/em> it. \u00a0As soon as I buckle them into their carseats, they ask, &#8220;Mom, can we have Bible songs?!&#8221; \u00a0About once a week, I have to tell them that Mommy needs a break, and they whine for a minute before enjoying the classical music station.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These songs don&#8217;t just stay in the car, though. \u00a0They get sung in the bathtub, or when it&#8217;s time to clean up toys. \u00a0I find myself whistling one or another every day. \u00a0They&#8217;re short, easy to learn, and catchy as all get out! \u00a0The one I&#8217;d like to explore today is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><strong>Give Me Oil for My Lamp<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><strong><em>~ \u00a0Listen while you read, please! \u00a0~<\/em><\/strong><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Give me oil for my lamp, keep me burning, burning, burning, <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Give me oil for my lamp, I pray (Hallelujah!) <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Give me oil for my lamp, keep me burning, burning, burning, <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Keep me burning \u2018til the break of day <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna to the King of Kings <\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna, sing Hosanna to the King!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kt_4cTQw8y8\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/center><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Not only did this song help me explain the miracle of Chanukah to my girls (who, of course, have no real idea of what a lamp is and how important it was to keep enough oil for it!), but it refers directly and indirectly to dozens of scripture. \u00a0The first that came to mind was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblestudytools.com\/nrs\/matthew\/passage.aspx?q=matthew+25:1-13\">Matthew 25<\/a>, the parable of the bridesmaids. \u00a0Here Jesus tells us to be prepared for His return, and not be caught unaware. \u00a0We need to keep oil in our lamps, to keep our light shining in the world and be faithful to Him! \u00a0We are warned that the Groom can return any day, any hour, and we need to prepare our hearts and our lives for Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>It also makes me think of the promise God gives us in Isaiah 40:28-31:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Don&#8217;t you know anything? Haven&#8217;t you been listening? God doesn&#8217;t come and go.<br \/>\nGod lasts. He&#8217;s Creator of all you can see or imagine.<br \/>\nHe doesn&#8217;t get tired out, doesn&#8217;t pause to catch his breath.<br \/>\nAnd he knows everything, inside and out.<br \/>\nHe energizes those who get tired, gives fresh strength to dropouts.<br \/>\nFor even young people tire and drop out, young folk in their prime<br \/>\nstumble and fall.
