Today I love and sing the contemporary worship and praise songs of the day. But often as I worship, my mind goes back to those old hymns that tell such wonderful stories, and teach such wonderful Biblical truths. \u00a0This is one of those songs:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0~ He Keeps Me Singing\u00a0(There\u2019s Within My Heart a Melody) ~<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Luther B. Bridges, 1884-1948<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">There\u2019s within my heart a melody Jesus whispers sweet and low,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Fear not, I am with thee, peace, be still, In all of life\u2019s ebb and flow.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Jesus, Jesus, Jesus! Sweetest Name I know,<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>Fills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go.<\/em><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">All my life was wrecked by sin and strife, discord filled my heart with pain,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Jesus swept across the broken strings, stirred the slumbering chords again.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Feasting on the riches of His grace, resting \u2019neath His sheltering wing,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Always looking on His smiling face that is why I shout and sing.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Though sometimes He leads through waters deep, trials fall across the way,<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Though sometimes the path seems rough and steep, see His footprints all the way.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Soon He\u2019s coming back to welcome me far beyond the starry sky; <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #800080;\">I shall wing my flight to worlds unknown, I shall reign with Him on high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Luther Bridges wrote this song shortly after the tragic death of his wife and three sons in a house fire. How could he write such a beautiful song after such a tragedy!? He shared that the Lord spoke to him through The Word.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The Lord is my portion, saith my soul.<br \/>\nLamentations 3:24<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">They that dwell in the secret place of the Most High<br \/>\nshall abide in the shadow of the Almighty.<br \/>\nPsalm 91:1<\/p>\n<p>As Luther wrote he remembered all that Jesus did for us.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Jesus suffered for us:<\/strong><br \/>\nHe was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities\u2026<br \/>\nWe all, like sheep, have gone astray\u2026<br \/>\nand the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.<br \/>\nIsaiah 53:5,6<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>He remembered God\u2019s promises:<\/strong><br \/>\nI will never leave you or forsake you.<br \/>\nHebrews 13:5<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.<br \/>\nIsaiah 43:2<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge.<br \/>\nPsalm 91:4<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In My Father\u2019s house are many rooms\u2026<br \/>\nI am going there to prepare a place for you\u2026<br \/>\nI will come back and take you to be with Me.<br \/>\nJohn 14:1-4<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">My peace I give you.<br \/>\nJohn 14:27<\/p>\n<p>All these promises and many more are wrapped up in one word&#8230;one Name\u2014<span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em><strong>JESUS<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. That\u2019s how Luther Bridges could move on from the tragic loss of his family; he said the Name of Jesus. He lived and breathed the Name of Jesus. Sisters, when you and I go through the trials of life, we must remember the sufferings Jesus went through for each of us, and we must remember His promises for us. Then we can <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">say<\/span><\/em>, we can <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">sing<\/span><\/em>, we can <em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">breathe<\/span> <\/em>the Name of JESUS, and walk through those trials.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #800080;\">* \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 * \u00a0 *<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, the sweetest Name I know.
