I grew up singing hymns and choruses. Today I love and sing the contemporary worship and praise songs of the day. But often as I worship, my mind goes back to those old hymns that tell such wonderful stories, and teach such wonderful Biblical truths. \u00a0This is one of those songs:<\/p>\n

\u00a0~ He Keeps Me Singing\u00a0(There\u2019s Within My Heart a Melody) ~<\/p>\n

Luther B. Bridges, 1884-1948<\/p>\n

There\u2019s within my heart a melody Jesus whispers sweet and low,<\/span>
\nFear not, I am with thee, peace, be still, In all of life\u2019s ebb and flow.<\/span>
\nJesus, Jesus, Jesus! Sweetest Name I know,<\/em><\/span>
\nFills my every longing, keeps me singing as I go.<\/em><\/span>
\nAll my life was wrecked by sin and strife, discord filled my heart with pain,<\/span>
\nJesus swept across the broken strings, stirred the slumbering chords again.<\/span>
\nFeasting on the riches of His grace, resting \u2019neath His sheltering wing,<\/span>
\nAlways looking on His smiling face that is why I shout and sing.<\/span>
\nThough sometimes He leads through waters deep, trials fall across the way,<\/span>
\nThough sometimes the path seems rough and steep, see His footprints all the way.<\/span>
\nSoon He\u2019s coming back to welcome me far beyond the starry sky; <\/span>
\nI shall wing my flight to worlds unknown, I shall reign with Him on high.<\/span><\/p>\n

Luther Bridges wrote this song shortly after the tragic death of his wife and three sons in a house fire. How could he write such a beautiful song after such a tragedy!? He shared that the Lord spoke to him through The Word.<\/p>\n

The Lord is my portion, saith my soul.
\nLamentations 3:24<\/p>\n

They that dwell in the secret place of the Most High
\nshall abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
\nPsalm 91:1<\/p>\n

As Luther wrote he remembered all that Jesus did for us.<\/p>\n

Jesus suffered for us:<\/strong>
\nHe was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities\u2026
\nWe all, like sheep, have gone astray\u2026
\nand the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
\nIsaiah 53:5,6<\/p>\n

He remembered God\u2019s promises:<\/strong>
\nI will never leave you or forsake you.
\nHebrews 13:5<\/p>\n

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.
\nIsaiah 43:2<\/p>\n

He will cover you with His feathers and under His wings you will find refuge.
\nPsalm 91:4<\/p>\n

In My Father\u2019s house are many rooms\u2026
\nI am going there to prepare a place for you\u2026
\nI will come back and take you to be with Me.
\nJohn 14:1-4<\/p>\n

My peace I give you.
\nJohn 14:27<\/p>\n

All these promises and many more are wrapped up in one word…one Name\u2014JESUS<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. That\u2019s how Luther Bridges could move on from the tragic loss of his family; he said the Name of Jesus. He lived and breathed the Name of Jesus. Sisters, when you and I go through the trials of life, we must remember the sufferings Jesus went through for each of us, and we must remember His promises for us. Then we can say<\/span><\/em>, we can sing<\/span><\/em>, we can breathe<\/span> <\/em>the Name of JESUS, and walk through those trials.<\/p>\n

Oh Jesus, Jesus, Jesus, the sweetest Name I know. It fills my every longing, and keeps me singing as I go! \u00a0I pray, Lord, that this will be the song each of my sisters can sing from the depth of their heart. \u00a0In the sweetest Name of Jesus, Amen.<\/p>\n
