We three kings of Orient are;<\/em><\/span>
\n Bearing gifts we traverse afar,<\/em><\/span>
\n Field and fountain, moor and mountain,<\/em><\/span>
\n Following yonder star.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Every year our six grandkids and I put on a skit depicting a portion of the story of the Nativity. \u00a0(I\u2019m the narrator.) \u00a0One year it\u2019s the story of the shepherds and the next year it\u2019s of the wise men\/the kings. \u00a0As I thought of the wise men skit, naturally I thought of this old Christmas carol. \u00a0But I was stopped at the second line and the first two words\u2014\u201cbearing gifts.\u201d<\/p>\n

They (the wise men) entered the house and saw the child with his mother, Mary,
\nand they bowed down and worshiped him.
\nThen they opened their treasure chests
\nand gave Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.
\nMatthew 2:11<\/p>\n

Born a King on Bethlehem\u2019s plain<\/em><\/span>
\n Gold I bring to crown Him again,<\/em><\/span>
\n King forever, ceasing never,<\/em><\/span>
\n Over us all to reign.<\/em><\/span>
\n Frankincense to offer have I;<\/em><\/span>
\n Incense owns a Deity nigh;<\/em><\/span>
\n Prayer and praising, voices raising,<\/em><\/span>
\n Worshiping God on high.<\/em><\/span>
\n Myrrh is mine, its bitter perfume<\/em><\/span>
\n Breathes a life of gathering gloom;<\/em><\/span>
\n Sorr\u2019wing, sighing, bleeding, dying,<\/em><\/span>
\n Sealed in the stone cold tomb.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

When I think of bearing gifts<\/em> to this Christmas Child, I have to wonder exactly what \u201cgifts\u201d do I give? \u00a0What part of my life do I give that is as the gift of gold<\/strong> which crowns Jesus as King of my life? \u00a0Does my life of prayer, praise, and worship have the sweet smell of frankincense<\/strong> rising up to my God? \u00a0And is my reverence for my Savior as the perfume of myrrh<\/strong>? \u00a0Lastly, I have to ask myself if I\u2019m taking the time with the grands to instill in them the importance of bearing gift<\/em>s to Jesus?<\/p>\n

I\u2019m still pondering exactly what my gifts are and will be. \u00a0It doesn\u2019t seem that anything I can give Him is enough, and yet all He asks of me is myself.<\/p>\n

O, Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare Your praise.
\nYou do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
\nYou do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
\nThe sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
\na broken and contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.
\nPsalms 51:15-17<\/p>\n

Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God
\na sacrifice of praise\u2014the fruit of lips that confess His Name.
\nAnd do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
\nHebrews 13:15<\/p>\n

Glorious now behold Him arise;<\/span>
\n King and God and sacrifice;<\/span>
\n Alleluia, Alleluia,<\/em><\/strong><\/span>
\n Sounds through the earth and skies.<\/span><\/p>\n

I pray that you will join me in bearing gifts<\/em> to Jesus this season and<\/strong> everyday. \u201cAlleluia, Alleluia,\u201d sings my soul to my King, my God, and my Savior\u2014The Perfect Light.<\/p>\n
