{"id":15677,"date":"2013-11-11T00:30:57","date_gmt":"2013-11-11T06:30:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=15677"},"modified":"2013-11-10T16:43:50","modified_gmt":"2013-11-10T22:43:50","slug":"five-bs-butternut-brussels-sprouts-baby-bellas-bacon-balsamic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/11\/11\/five-bs-butternut-brussels-sprouts-baby-bellas-bacon-balsamic\/","title":{"rendered":"The Five B&#8217;s: Butternut, Brussels Sprouts, Baby Bellas, Bacon, and Balsamic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.34.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15678\" alt=\"2013-11-06 18.45.34\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.34-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.34-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.34.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Raise your hand, please, if you\u2014like me\u2014are planning out and testing recipes to serve at your Thanksgiving Day meal! \u00a0Over the next few weeks, both here on the blog and also over in our FaceBook GCH-Fellowship page, we will be chatting about recipes for the big feast. \u00a0Last Friday, Dana shared that \u201c&#8230;it is always good to have a couple of side dish recipes in mind.\u201d \u00a0She gave us her<a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/2013\/11\/08\/frozen-pea-salad\/\" target=\"_blank\"> recipe <\/a>for a delicious-looking side dish salad here on the <strong>At Home with GCH<\/strong> blog.<\/p>\n<p>So today I am giving you a recipe entitled <span style=\"color: #e56719;\">The Five B\u2019s<\/span>: bacon (yum!), butternut (oh, yum!), brussels sprouts (yumm-o!), baby bellas (yum-yum!) and balsamic (yummy!)&#8230;.silly, I know. \u00a0But seriously, consider trying this as a side dish for your Thanksgiving feast! \u00a0Easy to prepare (the veggies can be prepped the day before). \u00a0And the prepared dish can be popped into the oven the moment you take the bird out! \u00a0It will be done and piping hot when your bird has finished resting and been carved. \u00a0This dish definitely fits into our<em> healthy but oh-so-yummy<\/em> point of view! \u00a0Enjoy!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.52.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-15679\" alt=\"2013-11-06 18.45.52\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.52-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.52-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/2013-11-06-18.45.52.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #e56719;\">Five B&#8217;s: Butternut, Brussels Sprouts, Baby Bellas, Bacon and Balsamic<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ingredients<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>3-4 tablespoons olive oil, divided<br \/>\n1\/2# thickly sliced bacon, chopped<br \/>\n1+1\/2# Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved<br \/>\n1 medium-large butternut squash, cleaned and cubed<br \/>\n8 ounce container Baby Bellas, cleaned and quartered<br \/>\n3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar<br \/>\n2 tablespoons maple syrup (the REAL stuff, please!)<br \/>\n1+1\/2 teaspoon coarse kosher salt<br \/>\n1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon ground allspice<br \/>\npinch fresh grated nutmeg<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Preparation<\/span><\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat oven to 400.<\/li>\n<li>In a medium-sized saute pan, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped bacon and cook 8-10 minutes \u2018til crispy. Lay out on a paper towel to drain; set aside.<\/li>\n<li>Lightly oil a large sheet pan (or two!) with olive oil.<\/li>\n<li>In a very large bowl, or stockpot, pour in the prepared veggies&#8230;Brussels sprouts, butternut squash, Baby Bella mushrooms&#8230;along with 1-2 tablespoons olive oil; stir well to evenly disperse the oil and season well with salt &amp; pepper.<\/li>\n<li>In a small bowl, whisk together balsamic vinegar, additional 1 tablespoon olive oil, and maple syrup. Drizzle this mixture over the vegetables and toss so that they are evenly coated.<\/li>\n<li>Spread out vegetables in a single layer (very important!) in the pan(s); sprinkle with salt, pepper, allspice and nutmeg.<\/li>\n<li>Roast in the oven for about 20 minutes; carefully remove pan(s) stir and flip over the veggies so that the other side can caramelize.
