A beautiful blessing, yes?\u00a0 Do you remember when God told Moses to speak this blessing over the Israelites?<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And the Lord said to Moses, Say to Aaron and his sons, This is the way you shall bless the Israelites. Say to them, The Lord bless you and watch, guard, and keep you; The Lord make His face to shine upon and enlighten you and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace.\u00a0 And they shall put My name upon the Israelites, and I will bless them.

This blessing had particular meaning because Moses and Aaron had been giving many \u2018rules and regulations\u2019 to the people from God.\u00a0 Some of the instruction they received also included \u2018cursings\u2019 (consequences that would come due to sinful behavior).\u00a0 And so, God gave\u00a0 grace<\/strong> to them and had Aaron speak this blessing over them.<\/div>\n

Note the seemingly odd word at the end of Psalm 67:1—selah<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 This Hebrew word, selah<\/em><\/strong>, has no absolute and definitive meaning.\u00a0 Most Biblical scholars understand it to connote something that is valued, or can be measured against (such as in a comparison).\u00a0 One Scripture that immediately jumps to mind talking about value and comparison is Proverbs 31:10.<\/div>\n

A capable, intelligent, and virtuous woman\u2014who is he who can find her?
\nShe is far more precious than jewels and her value is far above rubies or pearls.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
See, her worth (value) is being shown by comparison, i.e., ‘she is far more precious than jewels,’ and ‘her value is far above rubies or pearls.\u00a0 We should consider her of much value because she is being compared to these costly gems.
\nThere are quite a few\u2014seventy plus\u2014uses of this word selah<\/em> <\/strong>in the Scriptures…and almost every one of them is in the Book of Psalms.\u00a0 We are told to \u2018consider the value\u2019 of these things. \u00a0\u00a0 Here are but a few:<\/div>\n
\n
You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble; You surround me with songs of deliverance.\u00a0 Selah<\/b><\/em>.\u00a0 Psalm 32:7<\/div>\n
In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever.\u00a0 Selah.<\/b>\u00a0 <\/em>Psalm 44:8<\/div>\n
He will send from heaven and save me;… Selah<\/b>.<\/em>\u00a0 God will send forth His lovingkindness and His truth.\u00a0 Psalm 57:3<\/div>\n
Trust in Him at all times, O people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. \u00a0Selah<\/b>. \u00a0<\/em>Psalm 62:8<\/div>\n
How blessed are those who dwell in Your house!\u00a0 They are ever praising You.\u00a0 Selah<\/b>.\u00a0 Psalm 84:4<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n
In our selected verse for today, Psalm 67:1, we are \u2018considering the value\u2019 of God graciousness…His blessing.\u00a0 The value of God’s grace…oh my!\u00a0 It would seem to me to be un-measureable!\u00a0 It would have great and incredible \u2018value,\u2019 don\u2019t you think?\u00a0 But we are told to consider the value of it…so let us do just that!<\/div>\n

    \n
  • Grace<\/span> saves us by faith.\u00a0 (Ephesians 2:8)<\/li>\n
  • In our weakness, grace<\/span> is sufficient.\u00a0 (2nd Corinthians 12:9)<\/li>\n
  • Esther found grace<\/span> and favor in the king\u2019s eyes.\u00a0 (Esther 2:16-17)<\/li>\n
  • Jesus came and brought grace<\/span> and truth.\u00a0 (John 1:15-17)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    These are just a very few examples…the Scriptures are filled with examples of God’s grace being given in many, many, many different ways.\u00a0 What verse comes to your mind that communicates about God’s grace?\u00a0 Would you share it with us?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
