{"id":14130,"date":"2013-08-23T01:00:51","date_gmt":"2013-08-23T06:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=14130"},"modified":"2013-08-22T22:08:07","modified_gmt":"2013-08-23T03:08:07","slug":"his-commands-are-not-burdensome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/08\/23\/his-commands-are-not-burdensome\/","title":{"rendered":"His Commands are not Burdensome"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13840\" alt=\"SeekingHimLogo\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg\" width=\"560\" height=\"280\" srcset=\"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo.jpg 560w, https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/SeekingHimLogo-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.<br \/>\nThe statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple.<br \/>\nThe precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart.<br \/>\nThe commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes.<br \/>\nThe fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever.<br \/>\nThe decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous.<br \/>\nThey are more precious than gold, than much pure gold;<br \/>\nthey are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.<br \/>\nBy them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward.<br \/>\nBut who can discern their own errors?\u00a0 Forgive my hidden faults.<br \/>\nPsalms 19:7-12<\/p>\n<p>We read in this beautiful psalm that God\u2019s commands (His law, His statutes, His precepts, His decrees) are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><em>perfect<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;they refresh our souls<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>right<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;they give joy to our hearts<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>radiant<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;they give light to our eyes<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>pure<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;they endure forever<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>firm<\/em><\/strong>&#8230;they all are righteous<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>How encouraging is that?!?\u00a0 What a merciful, gracious, kind, compassionate God we serve! Throughout time, He has communicated with His people and given them His commands. In the beginning, God told His man, Adam, ONE simple command\u2014not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil in the Garden (Genesis 2).\u00a0 To the children of Israel as they journeyed for forty years to the Promised Land, He gave them His rules to follow (e.g, Deuteronomy 6).\u00a0 When Jesus was instructing His disciples, He pulled it all together, giving them TWO direct commandments\u2014to love God with their whole heart, soul, mind, all their strength and to love their fellow man as they loved themselves (Mark 12:29-31).\u00a0 Our hearts&#8217; response to our loving God should be loving obedience&#8230;plain and simple.\u00a0 I pray that the\u00a0following verses will be a reminder and encouragement for us all to trust and obey the Great I AM.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In fact, this is love for God: to keep His commands.\u00a0 And His commands are not burdensome.<br \/>\n1 John 5:3<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I obey your precepts and Your statutes, for all my ways are known to You.<br \/>\nPsalm 119:168<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Blessed are those who keep His statutes and seek Him with all their heart\u2014<br \/>\nPsalm 119:2<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * * * *<\/p>\n<p>Thank You, dear Lord, for how gracious You are to us.\u00a0 You are not a harsh, exacting God Who demands perfection&#8230;rather You are a loving Father Who sets righteous, life-giving commands before us!\u00a0 You guide us and help us to seek You and obey You from our hearts.\u00a0 You are SO good!!!\u00a0 We love You, Father&#8230;and pray in Jesus\u2019 name.\u00a0 Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul.
