{"id":13679,"date":"2013-08-02T01:00:18","date_gmt":"2013-08-02T05:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=13679"},"modified":"2013-08-01T13:06:50","modified_gmt":"2013-08-01T17:06:50","slug":"i-am-week-4-day-5-the-resurrection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/08\/02\/i-am-week-4-day-5-the-resurrection\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;I AM&#8221; Chapter 4 &#8211; Day 5: I AM the Resurrection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GFCHmemverse2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13730\" alt=\"GFCHmemverse2\" src=\"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/GFCHmemverse2.jpg\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 align=\"center\"><\/h2>\n<p>This week in our study, we have been learning about Jesus\u2019 character from someone who knew Him very well\u2014His chosen disciple, and friend, John.\u00a0 Throughout the gospel written by John, we learn much about Jesus.\u00a0 We come to understand, know, and love Him through<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The 7 \u2018<strong>I AM<\/strong>\u2019 statements<\/li>\n<li>His relationship with His Father<\/li>\n<li>His promises<\/li>\n<li>His incredible love for His followers<\/li>\n<li>His prayers and intercession for them (and us!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is this deep love and tender care for His followers that I would like to focus on today.\u00a0 With all that we have come to understand and know about our Lord as He walked this earth, should it surprise us at all that He had great relationships?\u00a0 His love&#8230;unconditional.\u00a0 His forgiveness&#8230;just amazing.\u00a0 His patience&#8230;<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">looooong<\/span>-suffering (think about the manner in which the Pharisees seemingly were constantly looking to snare Him).\u00a0 His grace, His mercy&#8230;just amazing!<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s lesson, Teresa wrote about Jesus <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">identifying<\/span> Himself as \u2018<strong>I AM<\/strong> &#8211; The Resurrection.\u2019\u00a0 And she shared the record from <strong>John chapter 11<\/strong> about Jesus\u2019 dear friend, Lazarus\u2019 death&#8230;and Jesus <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">raising<\/span> him from the dead.\u00a0 I always love reading the account of Jesus dealing with Mary and Martha\u2019s deep grief.\u00a0 He loved these three siblings very much!\u00a0 (You can read the full account <a href=\"http:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John%2011&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.)<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">Now Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the same spot where Martha had met Him.\u00a0 When the Jews who were sitting with her in the house and consoling her saw how hastily Mary had risen and gone out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to pour out her grief there.\u00a0 When Mary came to the place where Jesus was and saw Him, she dropped down at His feet, saying to Him, Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.\u00a0 When Jesus saw her sobbing, and the Jews who came with her [also] sobbing, He was deeply moved in spirit and troubled.\u00a0 And He said, Where have you laid him? They said to Him, Lord, come and see.\u00a0 Jesus wept.\u00a0 The Jews said, See how [tenderly] He loved him!<\/p>\n<p align=\"CENTER\"><strong>(<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">verses<\/span> 30-36)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>What a true Friend, and how tender, gentle, compassionate Jesus was to these two sisters!\u00a0 This record gives us the opportunity to know more about our Lord and Savior.\u00a0 We know from the Scriptures that \u2018&#8230;we do not have a High Priest Who is unable to understand and sympathize and have a shared feeling with our weaknesses and infirmities and liability to the assaults of temptation, but One Who has been tempted in every respect as we are, yet without sinning\u2019 (Hebrews 4:15).<\/p>\n<p>But He knew there was a purpose and plan in the waiting.\u00a0 He told them that their brother would be made alive again.<\/p>\n<p align=\"CENTER\">Jesus said to her (Martha), Your brother shall rise again. <strong>(<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">verse<\/span> 23)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"CENTER\">Can you imagine how hard it must have been for Jesus to not run <em>immediately<\/em> to them when He first heard that Lazarus was sick!\u00a0 But He\u2014Who <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">was<\/span> always busy about His Father\u2019s will\u2014denied His own desires to bring glory to God!<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"CENTER\">Then Jesus said &#8220;Did I not tell you that if you believe you will see the glory of God?&#8221;<br \/>\nSo they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said,<br \/>\n&#8220;Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.\u00a0 I knew that You always hear Me,<br \/>\n<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">but<\/span> I said this for the benefit of the people standing here,<br \/>\n<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">that<\/span> they may believe that You sent Me.&#8221;<br \/>\n<strong>(<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">verses<\/span> 40-42)<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This great care and concern for others was supremely evident all throughout His life; we could talk about time after time after time after time when He loved to the utmost&#8230;even up until the very end.\u00a0 As He hung on the Cross, His very life dripping out of His Body, He made sure that His mother, Mary, was taken care of.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother\u2019s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.\u00a0 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her,\u00a0 &#8220;Woman, here is your son,&#8221; and to the disciple,\u00a0 &#8220;Here is your mother.&#8221;\u00a0 From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.<br \/>\n<strong>John 19:25-27<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">This same love, care, and compassionate concern that our Lord had for those who lived and walked this earth with Him&#8212;He also has for us!\u00a0 Nothing less!\u00a0 The worries, the burdens, the cries of\u00a0our hearts&#8230;all are known by\u00a0our Lord.\u00a0 He intercedes for\u00a0us as\u00a0He reigns at God Almighty&#8217;s right hand.\u00a0\u00a0There is not a moment of our lives that Jesus is not watching over us.\u00a0 There is not a\u00a0need we have that He is not providing for.\u00a0 There is not a tear that falls that He is unaware of.\u00a0 There is not a burden that threatens to overwhelm us that He is not willing to help us carry.\u00a0 And so we must do the following.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace,<br \/>\n<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">so<\/span> that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.<br \/>\nHebrews 4:16<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6r-CR-rdB28\" height=\"315\" width=\"460\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Let&#8217;s Pray<\/span>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Dear Lord, we come before the Almighty&#8217;s throne of grace and mercy acknowledging Your perfect provision of everything we need!\u00a0 We love You, Lord, and we are so thankful for the privilege of learning and knowing more about You, our Precious Savior!\u00a0 May we speak and shout to the world about You, Lord Jesus, helping them to know the Truth that we know&#8212;YES!
