1 Corinthians 10: 6-7, 13-14<\/b><\/div>\n

These things happened as a warning to us, so that we would not crave evil things as they did, or worship idols as some of them did. As the Scriptures say, \u201cThe people celebrated with feasting and drinking, and they indulged in pagan revelry. \u00a0The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure. \u00a0So, my dear friends, flee from the worship of idols.<\/p>\n

Last night was another breakthrough in my media fast.\u00a0 I went back to 1 Corinthians to review some\u00a0of the Scriptures my pastor used in his sermon Sunday. \u00a0I want to talk about two things that kept revealing itself to me in the Scriptures above:<\/p>\n

Idolatry \u2013 What is it?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Idols \u2013 What are they?<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Let\u2019s start with idolatry first.<\/p>\n

What is idolatry?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

The dictionary defines idolatry as:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0:\u00a0the\u00a0worship\u00a0of a physical object as a god\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0:\u00a0immoderate attachment or devotion to something<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

God instructs us in of 1 Corinthians 10:7\u00a0to not be\u00a0idolaters, correct?\u00a0\u00a0 If so, we then need\u00a0to\u00a0ask ourselves if there are any idols in our life.\u00a0 We need to start first by finding out what\u00a0the\u00a0word IDOL<\/em> means.<\/p>\n

The dictionary defines the word IDOL<\/em> as:<\/strong><\/p>\n

idol<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n

\u00a0noun<\/span><\/i>\u00a0\\\u02c8\u012b-d\u0259<\/sup>l\\<\/strong><\/p>\n

:\u00a0a representation or symbol of an\u00a0object\u00a0of worship<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0:\u00a0a false god<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I want to focus on the definition of \u201can\u00a0object\u00a0of worship\u201d.\u00a0 What does that mean\u00a0to you?\u00a0 The word worship<\/em> means to praise\u00a0something\u00a0or someone; to honor; to put above.<\/p>\n

In today\u2019s world, there are many things\u00a0that\u00a0we worship, or idolize, that we may not even be aware of.\u00a0 I\u2019m talking about the things in our lives\u00a0that\u00a0we are \u201cattached\u201d\u00a0to<\/span>, can\u2019t live without, we have to have every day, and so\u00a0on.\u00a0 These are things that if someone were\u00a0to take them away from us we would\u00a0not<\/i><\/b>\u00a0be happy at all! \u00a0These are things that we have become so\u00a0attached\u00a0to that they have become a part of our daily life without us even\u00a0realizing\u00a0it.\u00a0 They are things that we\u00a0think\u00a0so highly of that sometimes nothing else matters and we get angry if\u00a0anything\u00a0comes in the way of us enjoying these things. Does anything come to\u00a0mind\u00a0when I say that?<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s take a look at some of the things\u00a0that\u00a0I am talking about and see if you recognize any of them:<\/p>\n
