{"id":12523,"date":"2013-06-15T01:00:24","date_gmt":"2013-06-15T05:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=12523"},"modified":"2014-01-09T21:33:26","modified_gmt":"2014-01-10T02:33:26","slug":"i-want-to-be-a-doer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/06\/15\/i-want-to-be-a-doer\/","title":{"rendered":"I Want to be a DOER&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was listening yesterday, along with some of you, to a wise woman share her heart with us. One thing she vocalized was her concern that we be <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">DO<\/span><i><span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">ers<\/span> and not just HEARers of the Word<\/i>.\u00a0 This wise woman was Mrs. Lisa Bevere, the writer of numerous books encouraging women, and one of the founders of Messenger International Ministries along with her husband, John Bevere.\u00a0 She shared, &#8220;If you know&#8230;you must<span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"> do<\/span>.\u00a0 Because to NOT do, when you KNOW, then there is a problem.&#8221;\u00a0 Oh. So. True!<\/p>\n<p>This struck my heart and caused me to remember the admonition and encouragement from the Book of James on this very topic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">But prove yourselves <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><i>doers<\/i> <\/span>of the word, and not merely <i>hearers<\/i> who delude themselves.<br \/>\nFor if anyone is a <i>hearer <\/i>of the word and not a <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><i>doer<\/i><\/span>,<br \/>\nhe is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;<br \/>\nfor once he has looked at himself and gone away,<br \/>\nhe has immediately forgotten what kind of person he was.<br \/>\nBut one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it,<br \/>\nnot having become a forgetful <i>hearer <\/i>but an effectual <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><i>doer<\/i><\/span>,<br \/>\n<b>this man will be blessed in what he does<\/b>.<br \/>\nJames 1:22-25<\/p>\n<p>I just *heart* the Book of James!\u00a0 Don\u2019t you?!?\u00a0 Here in chapter one, we are being<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>built up to handle the temptations that invariably come our way<\/li>\n<li>encouraged to ASK God for His wisdom knowing that\u00a0 He will give it generously<\/li>\n<li>reminded that rewards await us eternally when we persevere in these trials<\/li>\n<li>thankful because our Father only gives what is good and perfect to us<\/li>\n<li>warned to be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger&#8230;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And then our brother James writes, &#8220;But <strong>prove yourselves <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">doers<\/span><\/strong> of the word&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 Yes, oh, yes; yes, I will!\u00a0 Does your heart respond like that?\u00a0 I am pretty darn well assured that it does!\u00a0 Throughout the Scriptures, \u2018&#8230;men spoke from God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit\u2019 (2 Peter 1:21).\u00a0 And so, we are moved and compelled and motivated and spurred on (and convicted and reproved also!) as we read and consider and contemplate the words in God\u2019s Word.\u00a0\u00a0 These precious words motivate us to be<span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"> <em>doers<\/em> <\/span>and not <em>hearers only<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I am always so encouraged by the hearts of you, my friends,\u00a0as you\u00a0joy and rejoice over God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 In the same conversation that I mentioned at the beginning, my friend Kim talked about how much she loves studying the Scriptures.\u00a0 She shared a question that she asked herself, &#8220;&#8230;Am I<span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><em> doing<\/em><\/span> everything that I am studying and learning and absorbing?\u00a0 Now I need to be purposeful about praying if I am <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><em>doing<\/em> <\/span>what I am studying!&#8221; \u00a0Yes, Kim!\u00a0 That is exactly it!\u00a0\u00a0 And then a minute later, my sister Teresa shared her comment, &#8220;Mine is always \u2018back to the Word!\u2019\u00a0 Don\u2019t just listen to it&#8230;don\u2019t just study it; but you have to <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\"><em>DO<\/em> <\/span>what it says.\u00a0 Otherwise, you fool yourselves.\u00a0 It is wasted&#8230;and the Word will NOT be wasted!&#8221;\u00a0 Amen, Teresa!\u00a0 I, too, just want to be a <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">DOER&#8230;a doer of God\u2019s Word<\/span>!\u00a0 \u00a0\u2665<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Glad - Doer Of Your Word\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/n62-ujwVUqI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Praying for each of you!\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">\u2665\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #38c73d;\">\u2665\u00a0<\/span> coleen<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">_________________________________<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If you would like to send a personal message to Coleen concerning this blog post, you may email her at: <strong><a href=\"mailto:Coleen@girlfriendscoffeehour.com\">Coleen@girlfriendscoffeehour.com<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was listening yesterday, along with some of you, to a wise woman share her heart with us.
