{"id":12485,"date":"2013-06-14T01:00:52","date_gmt":"2013-06-14T05:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=12485"},"modified":"2013-06-14T12:01:42","modified_gmt":"2013-06-14T16:01:42","slug":"girls-with-swords-chapter-12-weekly-review-sword-of-silence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/06\/14\/girls-with-swords-chapter-12-weekly-review-sword-of-silence\/","title":{"rendered":"Girls with Swords: Chapter 12 Weekly Review \u2013 \u201cSword of Silence\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b>\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 align=\"center\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Welcome to Campground USA<\/span><\/h2>\n<p align=\"center\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Log Cabins, Nature Trails, Canoes,<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Paddle Boats, Bikes, Fishing<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b>Picture this scene<\/b>: There was an eerie silence among the townspeople as a vast army invaded their city.\u00a0 No doubt the people feared for their life as this army marched around the walls of their city without a word. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Sitting up in the window of one of the buildings in the city was a woman they all recognized from her occupation. \u00a0But today, there was something different about this woman.\u00a0 As the townspeople peered from behind their windows watching the scenario unfold before them, they could tell she looked peaceful and content as the army marched.\u00a0 And what was that thing she was holding in her hands?\u00a0 A long red thread?\u00a0 Wonder why she is holding that? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">You see, the lady in the window had, shall we say, CONNECTIONS with the commander of the army, and was just following his instructions.\u00a0 \u201c<i>Sit still and be quiet, and when the walls of the city are all down, we will come in and rescue you.<\/i>\u00a0 <b><i>But&#8212;&#8212;-if you go out into the city to try to save yourself, your blood will not be on our hands.\u201d\u00a0 <\/i><\/b>(Joshua 2, paraphrased.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Yes, Rahab&#8212;the harlot, one whose name ended up in the Hall of Faith for her obedience of wielding her Sword of Silence as the walls of Jericho came tumbling down. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">Let\u2019s go on down to the bonfire and learn more about this Sword of Silence from my girlfriends.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Teresa:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Some of us are <span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cbasket cases\u201d<\/span> and some of us are <span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201ccool cucumbers\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 as we face major trauma.\u00a0 If we look at Jesus\u2019 example, we will find <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">He<\/span> sought <b><span style=\"color: #000000;\">silence<\/span><\/b> to be alone with the Father before His major battles.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He was fasting and praying when He was confronted with Satan in the desert. (Matthew 4:1-2)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He sought silence and seclusion after the death of His best friend, John the Baptist. (Matthew 14:10-13)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">After ministering to the crowds and pouring Himself out, Jesus sought solitude and quiet in the mountains. (Matthew 14:23)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Jesus dealt with His popularity and the crowds by taking <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">times<\/span> of silence to reconnect with the Father.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">He dealt with this fear and anxiety through quiet time with the Father.\u00a0(Matthew 17:1-3)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before Jesus faced his death, He went alone to pray to His<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Father and ask for the coming events to be taken from Him.\u00a0 (Matthew 26<\/span>:<span style=\"color: #000000;\">36)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When questioned by the Pharisees, Jesus was controlled, reserved, and thought before He spoke.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When Jesus appeared before Pilate, He was asked very direct questions which would cause Him to be put to death and Jesus remained silent.\u00a0(Mark 14:61)<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">\u201cHe was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.\u201d\u00a0 (Isaiah 53:7)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><strong>If we follow Jesus\u2019 example, we will seek the Father BEFORE we get into hard and traumatic situations.<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jennifer\u00a0 <\/span><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Wielding the Sword of Silence is very tricky, especially when the battle we are fighting is <b>personal<\/b>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">There is so much wisdom regarding <b>quarrels, friendships, and revenge<\/b> in Proverbs as it relates to wielding the Sword of Silence during our individual struggles.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>1.\u00a0 Quarrels and Gossip <\/b><i><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Proverbs 26:20 &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; <i>Fire goes out without words and quarrels disappear when gossip stops.<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">We have to make a choice to stay silent, to not be angry, and to entrust the situation to our God. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><b><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">2.\u00a0 Friendships and Strife<\/span><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Proverbs 16:28 &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; <i>A troublemaker plants seeds of strife; gossip separates the best of friends.<\/i><b><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">We must recognize that \u201c<em>we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies but against the powers of the dark world<\/em>\u201d (Ephesians 6:12). <b><\/b><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>3.\u00a0 Revenge<\/b> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Proverbs 28:29<b> &#8211; &#8211; &#8211; <\/b><i>Don\u2019t testify against your neighbors without cause; <\/i><i>don\u2019t<\/i><i> lie about them. And don\u2019t say, \u201cNow I can pay them back for what they\u2019ve done to me! I\u2019ll get even with them!<\/i>\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Revenge is the way of the world; it is not God\u2019s way. Jesus was arrested, tried, convicted, and put to death an innocent man. During the course of His trial and conviction, He had many opportunities to plead His <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">case<\/span>, but He remained <strong>SILENT<\/strong>. He knew that His Father was taking care of everything. \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">We all have our individual struggles, but we were not created to handle them on our own. God is right there, waiting for you to call on Him. He wants to change our hearts. Be still; be silent. Let God speak to you and then do what He says.<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Tonya<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">The <strong><i>sword of silence<\/i><\/strong><em> <\/em>seems too heavy to bear when we have been wearied by altercations of life, relationships, and responsibilities.\u00a0 As Lisa said:\u00a0 The trick is choosing to allow those critiques to refine, not define us.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">Keys to remember:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">God alone establishes houses. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">When we live under the directive of God\u2019s Spirit, God protects us. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">God knows how to settle matters with our enemies.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We should never use our position with God to protect ourselves. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">We are not to take judgment or salvation matters into our hands; both of these matters belong to our God.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">I remind myself to step back in prayer and allow God to handle the situation; I\u2019m supposed to bite my tongue.<\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\">Kim<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; color: #000000; font-size: medium;\">I&#8217;ve never thought of silence as a weapon, but I can think of countless situations where silence would have definitely been my best weapon. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">As a mom, when that precious child you&#8217;ve nurtured, built up, loved and protected comes home wounded by the words of her friends.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">When a husband isn&#8217;t doing things the way I would. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman; font-size: medium;\">Because of my past, I was the topic of conversation at many dinner tables even after I had a few years of a transformed life under my belt, rumors and yes, the facts were still spoken about me, hurting my children and me. <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><span style=\"font-family: Times New Roman;\">As much as I wanted to set the record straight, as much as you may want to set a record straight, we are to be different and choose a different weapon!
