{"id":11839,"date":"2013-05-15T00:01:05","date_gmt":"2013-05-15T04:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=11839"},"modified":"2013-05-14T22:32:14","modified_gmt":"2013-05-15T02:32:14","slug":"girls-with-swords-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/05\/15\/girls-with-swords-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Girls with Swords: Chapter 8 &#8211;  &#8220;Sword of Words&#8221; (pgs 129-134)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What are we doing with our words?<\/p>\n<p>In the world we live in today, the power of our words means more now than ever; the power of the Scripture means more than it ever has, and the impact of its words will reach further than ever. I can honestly say that I have always known that there is power in our words; there is strength behind what we say and strength behind how we say it. That strength can have either a positive or negative impact.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><i>Proverbs 12:18 NIV<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><i><\/i><i>The words of the reckless pierce like swords,<br \/>\n<span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">but<\/span> the tongue of the wise brings healing. <\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen well-intentioned words hurt, and I\u2019ve heard well-intentioned words lead someone astray. We don\u2019t do it on purpose, but when we aren\u2019t intentional about what we say and how we say it, the interpretation of those words can become skewed, even in a conversation\u00a0between only two people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFar too much is lost in interpretation when we pass the words through the filter of earth rather than fashion the earth with the words of heaven\u201d &#8212; Lisa Bevere (page 129).<\/p>\n<p>Are we allowing our words to become earth-based? Are we allowing them to become catchy or clich\u00e9? \u00a0Are we trying to make the sacred words common? \u00a0Are our words lacking wisdom and hurting instead of healing?<\/p>\n<p>The Bible was not only given to us to help us grow closer to God, to help us understand God&#8217;s love for us, to teach us the history and to give us a guide in which to live our lives; but it was given to us\u00a0 for us to share it with others. \u00a0We must retain the power it holds.\u00a0 We <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">musn\u2019t<\/span> allow the filter that the world has placed on it to lessen the power it holds.<\/p>\n<h3 align=\"center\"><strong><i>Hebrews 11:3 NIV<\/i><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong><i><\/i><i>By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God\u2019s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.<\/i><i> <\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When I read this quote by William Booth I said \u201cwow!\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u201cIn answer to your inquiry, I consider that the chief dangers which confront the coming century will be religion without the Holy Ghost, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without a hell\u201d (William Booth, <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_noSuggestion GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">pg<\/span>. 133).<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t believe that we are intentionally creating this reality, but I do\u00a0believe that we are unintentionally making this statement true. When we say things, are we <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">saying<\/span> them because they sound good and will grab the attention of others? Or have we passed what we are going to say through God&#8217;s filter? \u00a0Have we asked His advice about what to say and how to say it? \u00a0Have we sought out His Scripture?<\/p>\n<p>Ladies, we need to be aware of our words. I know that this needs to be a goal of mine, too. \u00a0I am not always intentional about what I say. I always tell my kids to think before they speak. Lord, <span class=\"GINGER_SOFATWARE_correct\">touch<\/span> our hearts before we speak as a reminder to pray about what we are going to say and how we are going to say it. Your words hold power that we want to retain. Please help us to use our words to heal and not hurt, to draw ourselves and others closer to You and not to lead them astray. \u00a0In Jesus\u2019 Name we pray, Amen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What are we doing with our words?
