{"id":11121,"date":"2013-04-15T00:01:36","date_gmt":"2013-04-15T04:01:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/?p=11121"},"modified":"2013-04-12T22:02:49","modified_gmt":"2013-04-13T02:02:49","slug":"at-home-with-gch-perfect-soft-boiled-eggs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/girlfriendscoffeehour.com\/wordpress\/2013\/04\/15\/at-home-with-gch-perfect-soft-boiled-eggs\/","title":{"rendered":"At Home with GCH &#8211; Perfect Soft Boiled Eggs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Here on our <i>At Home with GCH<\/i>\u00a0 blog, Monday\u2019s are always focused on <i>healthy but oh-so-yummy!<\/i> recipes.\u00a0 This month I am on a &#8220;7&#8221; month journey with a few friends AND my husband!\u00a0 We are fasting from some of the excess in our lives, and endeavoring to establish better boundaries to help us keep God as the focus of our hearts.\u00a0 It is a \u2018mutiny against excess!\u2019 Our journey has certainly come along with quite a variety of challenges&#8230;but not necessarily setbacks!<\/p>\n<p>This month, our journey is focusing on dealing with excess in the category of food.\u00a0 In keeping with the &#8220;7&#8221; theme, we are choosing seven (ONLY!) foods.\u00a0 That comprises our menu choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.\u00a0 Total.\u00a0 So here\u2019s what Robert and I are keeping in our NON-excessive food list for 30 days (20 down&#8230;10 to go).\u00a0 (Ready? it really is a short list.) Eggs, chicken, salad greens, grapes (me) and strawberries (him), potatoes, broccoli, -and- protein bars\/smoothies.\u00a0 Also, I am endeavoring to have everything that my husband and I eat be UNprocessed and made from fresh ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, I am becoming very proficient in different methods of cooking eggs.\u00a0 (Practice makes perfect, y\u2019know!\u00a0 If you made eggs virtually every day&#8230;.)\u00a0 But I have never prepared the PERFECT soft-boiled egg.\u00a0 You know&#8230;firm, tender white with runny, yummy yolk.\u00a0 I perused the\u00a0Internet and found out that *<em>Cook\u2019s Illustrated<\/em> and <em>America\u2019s Test Kitchen<\/em> had set out to accomplish this task and communicate it to all of us.* \u00a0I am here to tell you that you, too, can perform this task in your own kitchen&#8230;here\u2019s how!<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Perfect Soft-Boiled Eggs<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Be sure your eggs have no cracks and are straight out of the refrigerator. You can use this method for one to six large, extra-large, or jumbo eggs without changing the timing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>tools:<\/strong><br \/>\nmedium saucepan, with lid<br \/>\ntongs<\/p>\n<p><strong>ingredients:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n4 large- or extra large-size eggs<br \/>\nkosher salt, freshly ground pepper<\/p>\n<p>frozen hash-brown patties<\/p>\n<p><strong>directions:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nFollow package directions for baking the desired number of hash-brown patties.<\/p>\n<p>Bring 1\/2 inch water to boil in medium saucepan over medium-high heat. Using the tongs, gently place eggs into the boiling water (eggs will NOT be submerged). Cover saucepan and cook eggs for 6+1\/2 minutes ONLY. Remove saucepan from stovetop.<\/p>\n<p>Bring saucepan to sink, remove lid and run cold water over eggs for 30 seconds to stop cooking.
